You know what I would spend an easy $100-$150 on? A complete book of past, and present lore for every champion. And I would pay an additional $30 a year to get a Vol II, Vol III, Vol IV, for each additional year, adding the lore of new champions and the reworked lore of older ones. YOU KNOW HOW HYPED I'D BE FOR THIS?! Along with past splash arts and updated ones? YOU KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY I'D SPEND RIOT. DO THIS PLEASE.

Ah this dude, they guy who is complete psudeo intellectual who's only accomplishment is that he sounds professional but is insightful as an average redditror or r/lol.

Meh I pity the bloody fools who waste their time listening to him. The only reaon I'd imgine you even bother with him is to find some pitiful justofication for the stupid things people are salty about.

He makes valid points

What point?

KoKoboto1 votes

One-shot stories lack real impact on lore. Riot feels the need to go 110% on everything which leaves us in the dust for ions. Having some short stories in between that don't even need to be heavy in plot can help flesh out their world. As opposed to them world building in champion biographies.

Ralanr2 votes

That’s what color stories and comics do. Flesh out the world.

Beyond Legends2 votes

???How does a story lack impact if riot has been doing 110% is every short story they release? That is a blatant contradictio which makes little logical sense. How is this a valid point?

KoKoboto2 votes

110% lore dump and then nothing happens afterwards and also they end up missing out on a ton of stuff because they do these small 110% bits.

It's like how people prefer books over movies a lot of the time because books got a bunch more stuff in them. In this case we don't need books but we could use less 110% explosions and just more of anything.

I feel your first and second paragraph intrinsically contradict each other, as you voice complaints regarding lore dumps focusing on "these small 110% bits" but then praise books over movies because "books got a bunch more stuff in them" which would seem to be contradictory to your initial complaint.

Not to mention, the reason why movies have a lot less of content is entirely due to the format restriction. Books could easily have days or even weeks of content in them, whereas movies only have 2-3 hours to start and finish the entire story, even with sequels it rarely exceeds 3 so it's still very limited. Books are thus completely different and incomparable with movies, and should be compared with TV series or other episodic media (such as graphic novel series) instead for a fairer comparison; and between the 2, I don't think there's an overwhelming preference towards the book format, maybe 50-50.

Nevertheless, all of those being said above, the biggest thing you're missing is that the game's lore especially in this genre, it's not supposed to advance, it's supposed to reach a point where the story becomes "still happening" and not go any further, or at least slowly. Unless Riot is going to make future iterations of LoL, or story expansion packs (which they do here and there), the story in the mean time is supposed to be static, because this is in the end of the day, an arena roster fighting game of sort. If you criticise the lack of future development of League's story, it's imo a bit like going to a traditional Japanese restaurant and complain that why they don't sell pad thai.

The way Riot has been making these stories have been complete one-shots where they won't be continued at all and don't allow for them to continue. Although some books don't have sequels they establish an enormous amount of stuff to tell a complete story or not, doesn't matter if the story is finished because a ton of stuff gets established. In the short stories Riot has been making basically nothing gets established.

All forms of media, story telling, and literature can be compared to one another because they're all literature story medias. One could compare the amount of world building within a book compared to a movie. For example, simple things like showing background characters in the world do something behind a main shot can establish world building. Considering a bunch of other art stuff, all literature things can be compared because at the end they're all telling a story and that story telling can be compared.

I know that we will never reach an end for these characters. It's like that for all games of these type. That doesn't mean the characters aren't allowed to progress and stuff. Hell they don't even NEED to progress. As mentioned before and in OP. Although it is still pretty lame to have stories with little plot progression just GETTING stories and drawing out the character a little bit more would really liven up the world.

Your comparison doesn't work because in this case, lack of future development is a negative trait to have. Sure this trait would be fine if the story was finished, an example could be for The Last Airbender which built a powerful world and ended the story. However in the case of League where the story WILL never end it becomes a horrible trait because now the world just stays static and nothing changes. In a world where nothing changes there is no sense of problem and there is no story. Also I don't think the thought about static lore being traditional is completely nonexistent and not a defining trait. Honestly it's just something that moba people don't think about. Like they have no reason not to continually update the world aside from money or low popularity (a lot of people aren't playing for the story). It's not traditional. It's just a bad habit, a horrible obnoxious habit.

EDIT: ALSO ALSO. We don't even NEED the CHAMPIONS from league of legends to progress the story. Stories like Progress Day and City of Glass and Iron and so damn good and they champions just make a small cameo in them. I talk about this here: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/szdlgFjV-rito-more-stories-please

Story-wise I could argue that having different regions and characters coming from different places is traditional to MOBA lores because if everyone came from the same place that'd be pretty weird. I can't say that lack of story development is something traditional because that's just a huge problem with a majority of MOBA games.

I'm on my phone.

So in laymen simple english terms is that your complaining about Rior not immediately following up with storylines. Unfortunately I have to remind you that we're hardly finish with foundation building of entire world, you can't advance the plot without setting up all the pieces correctly. It's a time issue, I know you people don't like to hear it but that is the reality.

People definetly prefer movie over books in this day an age lol.Your serious? There far more LoTR movie fans then their are books fans, come on think a little harder. You see this why you don't watch pseudo intellect, who's like to over complicate simple things with word fluff. It doesn't make you smart, just prententious and fake.

KoKoboto2 votes

Nah I'm completely fine with Riot not immediately following up with their story lines in laymen simple English terms but I also believe that we are allowed to be frustrated in this case. Take for example one of my favourite champions Quinn. She hasn't gotten a lore update since her release and this Demacia one just updated her previously lore a bit but that's it. It has been half a year since than and I will continue to wait because they still have to cover all these places. In other words Quinn's lore is basically dead for the time being and she has no plot or story thing going on. Hell she didn't have any plot or story going on with her update. So she's still really bland story-wise which is frustrating.

It's a reality that I've accepted but like to talk about sometimes to help deal with my depression, just getting it out somewhere.

The fact that we're hardly finished with the foundation of Runeterra is also immensely frustrating. The game has been out for seven years now and we're still in the dark for so much stuff. I also don't believe that it's a time issue. It's more that lore isn't that popular and Riot just doesn't work on lore I feel. It's a very easy to understand reality of MOBA games. However it's hard to believe that a huge company world wide small indie company like Rito games can't even give us small lore updates just to know what characters are doing.

Usually Kids and people who don't care about story do prefer movies over books and there's a lot of them out there. However by just doing a quick search of "Books v. Movies" on the interwebs you will find books always come out on top. Hell you can even ask your friends who watch and read books of the same stories. Often times they will appreciate the story more than the book. In other words when looking for story the book is often better than the movie. Disclaimer: I'm not a book advocate or anything, hell I don't even read books. I do know that books often trump movies in story telling.

Should always respect the liberty of speech for others. Even if they might be saying falsehoods the listener can correct to get an overall better society or grow individually through explanation and thought. Granted, I agree with about everything T B Skyen said in that video.

So you're telling me your entire arguement is base on your personal emotions and feelings. K mate this isn't therapy and I ain't instrested in helping you with your depression. Also you prove my point of this isn't a valid disccussion, but salt fest for your own stupid invalid reasons

Also what you believe is irrelevant, people believe is mystical sky daddy and that still doesn't make things true or valid. It's simply a time issue, that people aren't willing to accept. To say that league lore is dead because it's slow only proves your inpatience if anything. If Riot truly doesn't care about lore they would have just kept the Institude of War. Riot actually spending time shows a willing of commitment to their franchise unlike every other MOBA, how you manage to twist that into Riot not caring is beyond me.

Also liberty of speech does not mean I have to respect anything you say. I hold the right to mock and pick upart bad arguement. Every action has an reaction, don't expect do say something childish and not get mock of it.

If I am going by the statement I proposed as "League lore being dead" than that is true. League lore is dead. The only reason I talked about my feelings was because you brought up numerous personal points with your selection of tense. I felt that was the way you wanted this discussion to go but I can use a complete argumentative voice if you'd like. Although it is really difficult to even argue about story telling without getting personal because story telling IS personal. Much like how you are getting personal with your insults and all that. So actually I'll continue being a bit personal.

Going back it's funny how you argued against my point on movies because movies actually align with the smaller and more consistent stories I am proposing but that's enough of that. The solution to this dead space of lore we have are short stories that don't put so much pressure onto writers at Rito game. Right now we get "massive" region updates that amount to maybe 1-2 hours of reading and than the lore just dies. The stories get finished and we're left with nothing for a long time. Take for instance the Blood Line story from Shurima. That short story came out a year and a half ago and we're all still in the dark with little chance for update because of the rest of Runeterra "needing" major updates as well. Time is not the issue here, it's just that lore isn't popular for MOBAs and Riot doesn't feel like working on it, simple as that. You can't argue about time when there are light novels that are written only a seasons apart. Riot's short stories don't match up when they're typically 400-600 words.

Because stories for champions will never have a conclusion or be conclusive in any way due to the nature of League the story should always have at least some sort of movement otherwise it's dead. However it doesn't and we're left with a dead world with no progression of any kind. Riot cares, but the reality is that they don't care ENOUGH to actually set up a real world. Why should they care though? As I said earlier lore for MOBA isn't that popular and that's just a sad reality. I had hope when they released stories like City of Iron and Glass but that was last year in January. A world needs stuff in order to be alive and Riot doesn't provide enough stuff, so the world is dead.

About liberty of speech (thought & discussion). Sure you can be all sassy if that's how you carry yourself, I didn't say anything about that lool. I can't accept you telling me not to listen to someone though.

Still on phone.

You seem to be misunderstanding something.

Lore isn't equal to story further development, in fact, they might be at odds with eachother. Lore builds the backstory of whatever media you're experiencing, and yet you're using that word to want the story to go forward.

KoKoboto1 votes

I think lore doesn't mean building backstory either but it means a completed story.

Lore: "a body of traditions and knowledge on a subject or held by a particular group, typically passed from person to person by word of mouth."

In that sense lore is dead because none of the traditions and knowledge of the world is fully complete. Neither can said lore really be passed down because none of it is complete. I could than use stuff I've been saying in this thread to back up this argument.
