It allows you to maximize profit from a skin for a champ that isn't the most popular by seeing which one more people would be willing to buy while also meaning it avoids the problem of releasing a skin for a less popular champ only for people to be disappointed by the theme.
It's a win win situation for both sides and I think you should do it with other champions as well. (Tahm please)

While I wish I could claim that our aim with this event was calculated, and that our profits have been carefully accounted for in this business decision: it's straight up just us nerding out over the chance to share with our amazing players what we do when we make these decisions. I like the voting idea as well. While it is cool to be surprised with a new skin it's not all that cool to wait for a skin just to be disappointed. Voting for a champ to get a skin, and then voting for a skin would be a cool way to include the players. And like SpecterVonBaren said, it is a win-win situation.
Actually I feel this voting system is kinda awful, you're releasing unfinished designs and having the community at large (most of which who have never even touched Illaoi) decide on the skin based on what they think is cool. This is a very dangerous idea, I'd much rather see a gate where say only players with mastery 3 or higher on Illaoi could vote.
