Namely, Kitana, Jade, Tanya, etc. I'd certainly like to see some of Kitana added to Akali, especially those bladed fans. I honestly think blade fans would be more ninja-like than those kamas, but that's just me.

I mean when they updated Shen,they gave him a spirit sword and I am pretty sure that this was done to make him stand out thematically among the ninja and the whole champion roster as well. And I think that Akali is currently the weakest of the 4 ninjas when it comes to thematic uniqueness(Zed has his shadow clones,Kennen is basically the electro master of the game and like I said,Shen has now his spirit sword),i mean what makes her different from the other Ninjas?The only thing is that she is the only one who is female(so she'd be a kunoichi),but that doesn't seem like much compared to the others.

She doesn't really have any powers like the other three ninjas. Just technique and tools. I think they could reflect that better.

Ralanr1 votesI wouldn't say it's nothing special. She's still Shen's student so I'd imagine she's still in training and hasn't gotten to access the spiritual part yet.
This doesn't have to translate to nothing special gameplay wise. Talon for example has no magical ability what so ever, yet has an invisibly ult because he's just that good. His rework also made his Q more of a mundane but effective dash and his E is parkour, a non magical skill.
It's possible that they will go a route to make her "special" in a particular way that isn't careful usage of mundane tactics, but I feel it'd be a missed opportunity.

I mean don't get me wrong,you are right in that they could make Akalis gameplay unique and better without adding magical abilities to her,but the actual problem is that Riot wants every champion to provide a unique fantasy.
For example when Azir came out,they said that Azir isn't just a sand mage,but he is THE sand mage of the game(other champs with sand powers might come in the future,but none will be mages who specialize in sand manipulation).
However they have also said that they didn't focus that much on this aspect of the champion designs in the early days of the game and I think akali is one of the champions(if not THE champion) where this is the most appearant. Because the way it currently is,Akali is simply THE kunoichi,which basically means "she is the ninja with boobs",which doesn't seem like such a special theme.

GreenLore1 votesPersonally I'd say no,thats not gonna work,because in the end the ninja theme is quite strong in the other 3 champs as well,so her doing it a bit better than the rest doesn't seem like it would stand out at all.
I mean Shen really looks already like your typcial ninja and Zeds kit is full with ninja-stuff,both of the regular(shuriken,these claw-gloves whose name I forgot and he is an assassin,which is probably the most fitting class for a ninja) and the supernatural(clones and ninja-log-techniques) kind.
So it seems to me like its gonna be impossible to out-ninja that to a noticeable degree.

GreenLore1 votesWell she is on the list for a VGU and nowadays they pretty much only do big VGUs anymore,so it really wouldn't surprise me if she changed a lot.
Overall I guess they'll add something new to her in some form(similar to what they did with Shen). Maybe they go a bit more indepht about her passive,the twin disciples?I mean they did update it during the assassin update,so maybe they'll take it a step further? Like giving her 2 opposing elements,like fire&ice or light&darkness(which could both work well with her smokescreen,she could evaporate the ice or create a cloud of darkness/reflect the light from herself),though that might feel a bit too forced,so I dunno if that would be a good idea or not,I'm just brainstorming a bit here.
