The moment they fight each other Shen has to kill Zed. This is because Shen would have to have been tasked with eliminating Zed as part of his duties in order to fight him. And it can't end with Zed escaping because Shen can sense him and follow him. So there will only be one final fight if there is one.

Melledoneus1 votesShen cannot kill Zed because has not created imbalance yet. Zed has not killed Shen because he really has no desire to. It's a cold rivalry.
GreenLore2 votesWell when Shen met Zed in Jhins color text he was ready to fight Zed and only didn't do it because Zed told him about Jhin and the 2 are currently trying to catch Jhin,even though Jhin doesn't attack spirits,so Shen does go after murderers as well.

Extrasolar1 votesThis could be me remembering old lore, but wasn't it said that the mysterious box that Zed opened and got his shadowy powers from makes him more powerful than Shen? Considering it wasn't until the shadow powers that Zed could defeat Shen at all.
Zed and company managed to destroy Kusho's old ninja order completely, and Shen could only try to run damage control and save at least some of the lives within. I believe it's a matter of the fact that Zed doesn't really want to kill Shen that stops him from doing it, due to some lingering affection for him, and as someone said further down the thread it's Shen's commitment to balance and neutrality that stops him from killing Zed simply out of revenge, or attempting to anyway.
Melledoneus1 votesWell, that was back when Zed and Shen sparred. Before Shen was granted the position of Eye of Twilight. Also they were probably fighting using regular martial arts and Zed used his shadow technique to beat Shen.
Years after Zed was banished Shen had honed his spiritual powers and mastered his fighting techniques, and Zed had developed his own. Zed returned with an army of students to the dojo, killed Shen's father, and ordered the attack. Shen was implied to not be there, and he returned to save many students in a retreat that allowed Zed to take over.
Since that day Zed was banished the two have canonically never fought.
Arakadia1 votesTrue, but Zed opened that box of shadows which gave him incredible power too. And the shadows could probably cloak Zed from Shen.
