Why? It shows how much the art team invested in not only making the map unique, but to add a little story as to why it looks the way that it does. With the lore divorced from the game, now it's just a pretty map. I highly doubt they'll ever make a lore version of this.
See, the guys who makes the map actually cares about the things in the game having a sense of completeness/coherency/logic to them.
Narrative just wants to make an AU with the champions as characters. (at least that's what they've announced they're doing, we just haven't seen any of it yet)
I would love if the Rift got its own spot in the new lore, especially since Howling Abyss has a cemented lore spot and Twisted Treeline also has lore elements. If they get the Crystal Scar in there as well that would also be swell, but it would be terrible if the Rift didn't get a spot with all the work on it.
I would not be surprised in the slightest if the two sides were the ones mentioned in Aatrox's lore. They fit the bill perfectly.
I feel like they should've implemented the Slimes instead of the Raptors... :(

Actually I found it sad because it has not came to the cancer-infested brains of the art team that Crystal Scar's recall is the MOST ancient model and that, Twisted and Abyss all have outdated models (Turrets and minions)
