@Meddler & @Reav3s Take a Step Back and Really Look at Karma

It took three splash art updates to accomplish what you couldn't be bothered to communicate about or do the past four years. RiotOwlyCat (I might be spelling that wrong), 3rdCollosus, HUGEnFAST, and your splash art update team seem to understand Karma a lot better than you do. Really look at all of the positive comments, upvotes and love these three pieces of art are receiving. Go on Reddit, the boards, Youtube and everywhere and read the comments. It took three artists and your splash art update team to accomplish what should have been accomplished long ago on her.

Meddler and Reav3, maybe it is time you start communicating amongst yourselves about Karma and really look at her. I mean the artists you outsourced and the splash art update team seem to understand the champion better than any of your teams ever will. Heck, they communicated it better too than either of you have for the past 4 years.

Karma mains can be rude, condescending, whiny, very aggressive, pessimistic, and a lot of other negative things. What all of us are though are patient and very passionate. Can you sit here and say the same thing about any other fans of a champion? I for one expected these pieces of art to be horrible because of the history of anything this company has done with Karma. I was pleasantly surprised when I got home from work and looked at the art on my computer, to see that viewing it on my tiny cell phone at work didn't do it justice. Karma mains are the first group of players that will be brutally honest to you and outright let you know if something is terrible on her. All of the comments on the splash-art seem to be that we love it and it is about time, but too bad the in-game models are terrible. It also reminds us that while the art might be amazing, Karma's theme, lore, identity, kit, visual update and much more is still lacking and it doesn't seem the rest of the Development teams care.

It took three splash art updates to accomplish what you couldn't be bothered to communicate about or do the past four years. This is a very harsh thing for me to say, Meddler and Reav3. I do not think you guys can sit here and tell me you care about Karma as much as these three artists and your skin update team does. You don't care.

The only thing I am going to say is if you are going to remove Karma's fans for a mantle of decorum that you want to make more prominent on her, go all out with it. If you want to remove Karma's shield bomb and replace it with an unoriginal Iron of the Locket Solari active, then make it look good and find a way to make it unique on Karma. What Karma had on her before was amazing. If you are going to keep what you have on her right now, then it needs to be 10x better than what we have right now. We really need to feel Karma and you need to show us this with real results. For the past 4 years you have not done so and have done nothing but give us excuse after excuse and a poor representation of what Karma is supposed to be. Maybe you need to outsource more help with her when the time comes because other people seem to be more passionate about her than you ever will be.

Again, I am not trying to be mean. This is the reality of everything for the past four years with this champion. The splash art update to these three skins are exceptional, amazing, and really capture the essence of Karma. At the end of the day though, what is a splash art update really accomplishing on the champion? Her lore still sucks, her visual update is terrible, her theme is not being properly represented, her kit is not unique and is very bland, and the list goes on. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done. If you cannot be bothered to care about Karma, maybe you should outsource more people that do. I'm just saying, Meddler and Reav3. You cannot even be bothered to actually communicate about the champion with us for the past four years, besides the one or two times that you gave us an excuse. You even admitted you couldn't be bothered to communicate amongst yourselves about her. You apparently did so for Ryze the past 4 years.

Great job splash art update team and all the other artists involved in the pieces of artwork for Karma.

As always stay frosty,

Totally agree with you that Riot could have done a better job with Karma's rework. That's in the past now though and I honestly think we should be celebrating the quality of her new splashes instead of usIng them as a vehicle for hate towards Riot employees.

Truth is, Karma's not the only champion whose rework negatively impacted her theme or failed to live up to its full potential. Just look at Skarner, Mordekaiser, Shen, Quinn--all could have been so much more, but due to internal issues, they just didn't work out as planned, or failed on a conceptual level.

I don't mean any offense. I know what it's like to have a champion you love be changed into something that makes them less cool, interesting, or exciting. Heck, I'm sure even Rioters experience this from time to time with their favorite champs. That doesn't justify personal attacks on them though, especially not on specific employees who may or may not even be responsible for what happened to said characters.

Unfortunately, League has a lot of champions in need of attention right now -- some more than others. We just need to be patient and wait for our turn. When that time comes, concise, polite, and level-headed feedback is what will drive positive changes -- not targeted insults or condemnations.

Wow congratulations! You just might surpass the Viktor mains in terms of whininess, you still have to compete against the Galio and Aatrox Mains though,

I agree that the Karma rework could have been better, but honestly, giving Karma her fans back is simply no priority, when you look at the problems that dozens of other champions have with their models.

Your best chance to see karma improvements is an enchanter update, which will likely come after the tank or the diver update,so it'll likely come at the end of this year or in the first half of the next one. Luckily Karma still has her fans in her dance,so it should be possible for Riot to add them to some of her skill animations as well(they likely won't be always present, but at least her abilities might involve them)

I wouldn't say the rework was terrible, it certainly put Karma in a better spot. She's not perfect though either. I think few minor ingame graphical updates would do wonders on her. Gameplay wise I'm quite certain she would be on the enchanter roster update whenever that is coming since her kit is rather general and her theme is lacking (is she supposed to be a spirit mage or what?).

Visually I'd expect:

  • animation adjustments (walk/run animation + E animation)
  • recolored effects on older skins (galio got recolored effects...)
  • toggle dress open/close on traditional skin
  • no fans please

From gameplay side I'm just expecting a more clearly defined niche that explains her theme. New lore would also be extremely welcomed. Also new voice lines and champion interactions would be cool.

What kind of niche would you like to see Karma fill?

Tbh I'm not sure. She can go many ways. I see Karma as a mage/support that specializes in spirit magic. I think moving her current passive to mantra itself and giving her a totally new passive would give enough room for a new mechanic that defines her theme. She's calm, wise and "the enlightened one". That has to be told in game as well.

Well if you consider what Karma was before, she was a battlemage who revolved largely around supporting her allies. Her defensive abilities had offensive uses, something that Riot claimed to like about her. No character in the game fills the space Karma used to fill, as the battlemage who controls (inspires?) her team. It would be nice to see Karma have some kind of interesting interaction with her allies beyond an AoE shield + MS boost, perhaps with her tether? At the moment Karma is just a flavourless Enchanter who does what all the others do.

Well said. I think an ally tether would be cool as well. Maybe balancing out the health pools of Karma and her target ally or something. "Balance" is also a close theme to spiritualism and duality (the theme she had before).

Karma giving up her self-heal to heal an ally would be quite thematic, considering her old personality. Personally I'd love to see an updated version of her tether clothesline mechanic, perhaps it briefly root enemies who pass through it? Karma could be really cool if Riot wants her to be. I'm still hoping that one day her shieldbomb will return too, an updated version with counterplay so it can be a bit more impactful.

The rework was terrible in that it stripped most everything unique to Karma with a more manageable but uninspired ability kit.

Nearly every rework following Karma's has had more care in keeping to the champion's theme and character while enhancing their gameplay to a more modern standard.

You aren't the only person to wonder what Karma's purpose is, but that's one of the major reasons her rework is considered a failure.

Instead of reinforcing her theme and identity, the rework stripped her of one for an ability kit that's more normalized.
