I think that they did a great job in retaining much of Warick's iconic character traits and updating them for the present . I really think they can do the same for Evelynn. I think a lot of us are concerned with them tearing out what we enjoy about the Widowmaker. Just have to wait and see I guess.

The new designers on ChampUP for VGUs, according to Reav3, will be Stashu (Whose notable works include Vladimir in the MYMU and the Fiora Update) and RiotRepertoir (Whose notable works include the VGUs of Taric and Ryze). Reav3 will announce which of them will work on whose VGU in the upcoming State of Champion Update Devblog.

Akali got work in the Assassin update. They distinctly stated they wouldn't do double work like that so shortly.
As for Eve, Meddler and Reav3 have stated she needs heavy overhauling because her kit and fantasy and original concept are disjointed due to permanent stealth. She's going to get substantial changes with very little preservation of her current kit design.

QMighty1 votesThey intentionally avoided working on Akali in the assassin update because she needs a full VGU. That's why she only got minor work.
That being said, I think Eve will still be before her, even though I wish she wasn't.
Oleandervine1 votesThey gave Akali more than they should have if they were avoiding work on her. They completely overhauled her passive and gave her a teleport as part of her Shroud. There's also the fact that they had initially said they didn't want to double up work - neither Akali or Evelynn was in a spot where they needed absolute fixing for the health of the game. If they had truly intended to give Akali a VGU anytime soon, she would have been left as is.

Actually, Ghostcrawler clarified on the most recent Monthly Live Q&A Stream that the next champion might not even be revealed by April.
In fact, he said that, due to issues with Voiceover work (which likely have something to do with the voice actors agency they're in contact with, IMO), he's seen the schedule and the new champs that are being worked for 2017 are, for the most part, leaning towards release only in the second half of the year.
