Ekko's decision.

First of all I gotta say, great story.

Ekko tried in vain to reach his friend in time to save him. 91 times he has failed. Too late to do any more than morn. He tried a 92nd time and finally reaches him in his last moments in life. Ekko realizes then that no matter how many times he goes back, he would always be too late. However this time he receives a clue from his dying friend. And so Ekko goes back for the 93rd time. This time he attempts to kill the man whom has robbed him of his friend. However in the confrontation Ekko's device is damaged, and he is forced to go back one final time. With his device broken he has only one chance left. This time he has a decision to make. To kill the man whom has murdered his friend in cold blood, or to once again race to his friend's side? Having already arrived to find his friend dead 91 times, and having already reached and watched him die once. . . .Ekko forgoes vengeance. On his 94th rewind, he returns to his friend. And instead of exacting revenge for his murder, Ekko chooses to remain by his friend's side, and comfort him as he passes.

To me this speaks volumes of whom Ekko is as a person. While some people are complaining about the lack of lore and how Ekko has no ties with other champions, I feel that there is lore within the characters themselves. While it is not everything I want from lore, it is enough for me (at least for now) and gets me interested in the champion.

I know you all in the lore department are hard at work despite what many believe. And I hope you the best of luck and much inspiration for your writing!

On the surface the comic is pretty shallow, but dang there was a lot hidden in the details.

My only fear is that they won't follow up on this.

Ekko ran 91 times for about 4 minutes each run. Since the video shows he doesn't heal when he warps back, that's a lot of running. 91x4= 364 minutes 364/60= 6.067 hours Ekko ran for 6 hours straight.

Yeah...and got faster each time. Even with short cuts, he apparently doesn't get tired.

I'd assume exhaustion would be removed as well, since that's a physical trait, and those seem to be removed by rewinding. He may be worn out mentally, but his body is still good to go. I'd be willing to be he looks tired because he thinks he should be tired. Kind of a mind/body disconnect.

But why would exhaustion be removed but not marks on him?

If I wanted to be really picky I'd say that the mind and body are one and thus memories are physical, but I'll grant that in this universe the mind and body can be different.

Not sure what you mean by 'marks', judging by the video, every outward effect on him was gone.

Also, the mind and body are generally treated as separate. We know he keeps his memories of before his rewind, so his mind isn't effected. But we also know that damage to his body is turned back, so it is. So there is a clear and separate difference there.

Looking at the video he doesn't get any marks at all even when getting punched. Must be the art style. In any case, he still is shown to be out of breath, which is a physical thing. Also, according to Riot, he continues to age when he uses his device, which is a physical thing.

As I mentioned, mental disconnect. His body is fine. But his mind remembers having run all over the place, being beaten up, and even having an arm broken. And as we all know, the brain rules the body. Ekko appears to be out of breath and has phantom pain because his brain thinks that he is damaged and tired, despite his body telling him otherwise.

Not sure about the aging thing though. Maybe a side effect of the rewind? A story fail safe to make him mortal? Bleh, too much conjecture for my taste.

But if his body doesn't actually need the extra oxygen, he wouldn't be breathing heavily. It's a response to a physical need, not the same as 'remembering' a physical need.

He partially heals when he rewinds, but yeah, he should be completely exhausted.

Actually, he only feels phantom pain. The injuries themselves are rewound, the pain remains.

His arm is clearly shattered in seconds, yet when he rewinds, he only feels pain. The arm is fine.

Just seems odd that some things from the rewind remain, but others don't. He certainly looks tired when he rewinds.

I believe in the Q&A they said that he no longer has the injuries he had sustained before traveling back to his previous condition, but that he could definitely feel them. Seeing as he sustained no injuries during the runs, his body would be able to handle it and he wouldn't feel it. If I'm interpreting their answer right.

I wonder why he wouldn't feel tired then after 6 hours of running.

Perhaps it is the mind and senses of him that gets transported back? That way, he would feel the stronger pains, such as broken bones and injuries, but something such as running (especially when it was only for 3-5 minutes at a time) wouldn't affect the mind.

I sense a need for more details.

In the comic and video, we see his appearance change so physical changes do occur. It's inconsistent what changes though. Inconsistency kills suspension of disbelief. I have no problem with time travel nor magic, but I like it when the rules of the fictional universe are evenly applied and not just when convenient for the writer.

Yeah, the basic story is a good introduction and tells a lot about his personality. It does raise some narrative questions, though, mainly about the mechanics of his Z-drive (which also can reach into alternate dimensions, apparently?). I'd like to know why damaging the device caused another time reset and how long it took Ekko to fix it. Also when he actually found Ajuna dying just to get a clearer idea of its limitations.

honestly, i feel that this, and the last teemo skin release, is crossing boundary's that lol is not at all about..... there has not been this realistic take on serious issues before i think, and i might be wrong since this current crop is so polarizing... but i think it is not going in a good direction....

it makes me uncomfortable

does it matter his friend died because he did pull his device too late even thou he had a feeling that his friend was in trouble i for example would comfort my friend in his final minutes and then i go rewind and kill the evil guy who killed my friend and why ? because i in place of ekko would not forget the final minutes with my friend and i wont forget the feeling how good it felt to kill that evil guy.

For Ekko, it's not about whether or not he saw the final moments of his friend's life.

It's about whether or not his friend had someone with him during the final moments of his life.

In the comic, it clearly shows differences in his appearance when he rewinds, he gets cuts and gets dirtier. So he must get damaged when he rewinds, it would also make sense as to why he still remembers his action even after he rewinds, his body is going back in time, but that wont rewind anything that happened to his body.
