Before long nobody is gonna give a shit about Varus' new lore.
Until he gets a new voice over that connects to the lore when everyone will be oh so excited that Riot nailed the new VO. Then it's gonna be a matter for maybe a week again before falling into oblivion and being just something that is part of the overall narrative. I would really prefer to get over this quick.
You know what? Just for the sake of trolling I'm gonna give you guys another battleground for debate right here and now. BOTH lores have their pros and cons! Oh shit, who'd have thought that?!
Old lore
Pros: Up until just recently it was a well established lore and the players became fond of it. It also fit his persona.
Cons: The old Varus lore was bland and generic. Strong guy has mental breakdown after losing his family and chooses power at any cost to achieve his new goal of vengeance. Sasuke Uchiha much? Uhh, hitting all the sore spots, ain't I. [sg-miss-fortune]
New lore
Pros: It's much more in depth than the old one and despite the "love against hate"-trope, which is also pretty generic, is more relateable, more fleshed out and gives more insight into the Darkin lore which we started to crave. And by "more relatable" I mean that there are probably more people out there who would do anything for their love than there are people who are former soldiers which seek revenge against an entire people because their entire family was wiped out. This may sound corny but be honest. If there was a person who you loved so much you wouldn't want to live if that person died wouldn't you also try anything possible to save this persons life?
Cons: The most obvious con is, that an established champion was pretty much "killed" but did you shed one tear when that happened to Trundle? Also the new trope is pretty generic, too, but at least has some interesting elements that you don't see everywhere.
Also I don't get why you all are so pissed about Varus "becoming" gay. Yes, he was canonically in a hetero relationship and had a son but be honest, would all of you get so riled up if the original Varus was gay and had an adopted son? No you wouldn't. Let love just be love. Why don't you all just for once DONT GIVE A FUCK about what kind of love there is. When you are a hetero man it's okay not to want to HEAR about a man shoving his wiener into another man but if feelings are sincere dont try to oppose them. This may sound convoluted for some people but doing nothing - aka not giving 2 shits - can be quite a challange. How about you accept this challenge for once?
Guess what, I like the new lore more than the old one because it goes more in depth into that whole Runeterra-thingy and isn't as generic as the old one. And I am actually a Varus player. Granted I dont main him but whenever I'm forced into going ADC I play Varus and back when he first came out I was really excited I even have 2 skins for him which I didn't get from Hexcrafting. Do you actually think Riot did this retcon with evil intentions? No! They wanted to push boundaries because I honestly think they are actually the most excited ones when it comes to this game especially those who work on the lore of champions as well as the entire world they create and that is how it should be.
But whatever. Say what you want you crybabies. I prepared the battlefield! Go on and ramble as much as you want! You wont be able to change anything. And that is a good thing. Because if Riot now decides to pull back they lose their credibility.
