I really wish they'd finish giving the KDA members prestige skins just to be equal, and never do them again.
I was at first interested in them like... 2-3 times a year but we had so fucking many at once it's clearly going to be a bad habit from this point forward to just include a prestige version of each group of new skins.
Pretty simple explanation. They saw how much money they made with Prestige Kai'sa and decided to do it more often for more money.
Remember when 1350 skins were supposed to be 'rare' and 975 skins were supposed to be the majority of skin releases? Ya how did that go, 1350 overwhelming majority now.

Welcome to the concept of artificial scarcity. The name to denote these skins, Prestige, was not chosen by accident. Riot is doing with skins what absurd clothing companies like Bape or Supreme do- producing mediocre/average quality material, then selling it for massive payouts to people dumb enough to buy it because they think it grants them some sort of elevated status. Hell, I have Prestige Kai'Sa, mainly because I didn't see the token cost before getting the god damn pass. They want you engaged all day, every day, grinding after these skins, as it increases the likelihood that you'll buy more skins in the process. That's why I've essentially quit since then, it's a morally corrupt money-grubbing "fuck you" to the playerbase. Not that it hasn't happened before, it's just worse now.
To be fair, the patch after this one going live tomorrow is probably not going to be dropping until well after the holidays.
"Prestige" is basically a glorified golden chroma.
Riot can afford to overprice it so ridiculously much only as long as it remains rare and exclusive.
If those kinds of skins come out too often, even the not-so-bright league playerbase will realize they're a cash grab with no product behind to back it up. I guess either Riot is experimenting how far they can push, or their greed is really starting to blind them.
Moreover, "Prestige" made thematic sense only for the members of KD/A. On Aatrox is just weird and dumb.

I think the 'saddest' is making it a gold thing... I don't feel it make much sense for this skin to be gold, I am sure they could have go on the 'blue oni' kind of vibe more and change the particles and some aesthetic to make it like a counterpart of the normal skin.
I don't know, I also think they should make it more rare, like one very three month (one for world, one for summer, two whenever they want).

What is with all these prestigious skins, riot they're not even good. Prestigious kaisa was only popular because it was the only one in existence but now that you're pumping them out so quickly they wont matter to players or "hardcore collectors" as you called them.
i agree, i thought chormas where a thing not a full price skin for a diffrent look, money grabbing riot but they wont balence the game but we get new skins weekly

these "prestige skins" force you to buy the pass AND play the game in the time span. its win-win for riot. sales and garanteed play time from every main, who wants that skin. its the perfect way for riot.
otherwise kaisa (akali, aatrox next) mains would just buy the skin and use the time to play other games. specially the time from nov-jan is THE time to buy and play new games.
They want you to have a sense of pride and accomplishment in using your money. You can't have that without a gold skin.

Yeah, I also was under the impression that they would be rare and we wouldn't have to grind for them so often if we wanted them. Seems like Riot wants to burn out the whales who buy and collect a shit load of skins, which is hilarious because people who just like the game have been burned out for a while. This is honestly a bit ridiculous.
Like, one prestige skin a year? Sufficiently rare and cool to get. Two? Pretty rare, you'll just have to play a lot. Three? Alright now they're losing their novelty and becoming a bit fucky. If they do one every other patch like this no one will give a shit there are prestige skins. They should stop trying to rip off Fortnite's battle pass system that has an ultra rare skin at the end because what they don't seem to realize is Fortnite has literally 100 (I believe I don't play the game) tiers of skins, emotes, pickaxe thingies, parachutes, etc, and Riot is literally asking the same price and a similar grind for one fucking skin which is rare but no longer novel. Wowee.
