Will they just be on the sidelines going "What's up, Shen? You're acting weird."? Or do they actually have some involvement in this story?
Personally, I'd love to see Akali developed more (both in lore and in gameplay). Why does she hate Zed so much? Is she sleeping with Shen? Would she try to kill Jhin against Shen's wishes?
Honestly I'm not 100% sure, in the old lore they were pretty much a team. They worked together to maintain harmony in Ionia. However with Shen's new lore it seems that their jobs are more distant and they occasionally team up.
As for Akali her passive is called something like disciple of the two paths?(I'm sorry I haven't played Akali in ages I prefer Ahri and Diana) but anyway it suggests that she leaned the way of the shadows of Zed and the path of order of Shen and might hunting don Zed? doubt she would be sleeping with Shen, Shen is emotionless. He doesn't feel, love, or anything but judge with absolute neutrality, he couldn't have emotions for Akali though they might if they need a heir to the kinkou but that's a different story. As for Akali killing Jhin yes, Akali stand for eliminating those who threaten the equilibrium of Valoran and Jhin is very much disrupting it. Though this is old lore so I have no clue just how much is actually valid.
Overall I feel like they have 2 of the weakest lores of all champions. Even Shacos "it's a mystery"-lore feels better than the lores of akali and Kennen.
I mean Akalis is pretty much "she is the fist of shadow,her mother was the previous one" and Kennens is "he was a yordle with too much energy,when suddenly ninjas asked him to become one of them and he was like "ok",so they made him a ninja".
Though their characters synergize well with shen,with Akali being more ruthless,Kennen being rather soft and Shen being in the middle of the 2.
And I think that both could use a gameplay/visual update as well.I mean Shen is now a bit more distinct thanks to his spirit blade,but Akali has currently just some generic ninja moves. Kennen stands out thanks to being THE electro champ of the game,but I think his design should make that a bit more clear,as you wouldn't know that just by looking at him.
