I don't think I've seen anyone who disliked Sol's voice, lots of people consider it the best part. Don't know where you're getting that idea.

I for one dislike the character (which the voiceover fleshes out). It reminds me of the Nasus Lore rework, where before he was a wise sage, and now he's such an edgy dog.

I really love dragons as a trope, but I'm far more into wise characters, and Aurelion Sol could have had the wisdom and knowledge from seeing Stars born and die, instead he's just a douchebag going "look at me i destroy stars lel kek". We have enough of those Draven type self-worshippers. Where are the mature champions, the ones so intimidating they don't have to taunt you?

He did not say that he was ugly. He said that he is the aspect of tackiness.

The register here does a lot to a character, and even thought that is not the most brillant line it is not intended to be always like that.

I'm inclined to say "Same difference" here. "Not the most brilliant line" also is a massive understatement but either way if THAT was the one and only highschool drama-level insult in his VO, I wouldn't mind. He goes that route with pretty much every champion, always going for the most obvious, cringeworthy insult possible, with the possible exception of maybe Leona/Diana.

The fact that they were going to imitate people like James Spader makes it even more painful, since that guy has so infinetly more wit than going "neener neener" half the time. Honestly, as far as taunts go, I'd consider Aurelion Sol only one step above Tahm Kench, as far as cringeworthiness goes.

Yes i agree, but i feel like Aurelion Sol should be wise and powerful enough where he doesn't need insults or threats.

I would have loved for him to have similar personality as old Nasus, wise powerful and as taunt a simple "Have it your way.". I feel like that would be much more badass than the "look at me im so badass" teenage edgelord he is.

Honestly, I agree with that assessment. Someone in this thread implied that this kind of sassy behaviour would come natural to an ancient, powerful being, but given the track record of (good) fiction and even reality, this kind of behaviour rather fits to a YOUNG character with immense power.

Ancient characters with such power are way more likely to drift towards wisdom or, if we go for an "unfriendly" trait, utter and completely indifference concerning lower life forms.

But if you want to make him a self-absorbed ass with unimaginable knowledge, experience and power, don't let him talk like a spoiled teen who just discovered a thesaurus.

I'd counter that Aurelion is at least somewhat indifferent to most people, although I do agree he goes to certain extents to belittle others in a way that makes him come off as... a bit childish. He could take notes from Jhin, who's also condescending but... pulls it off much better. I think a key difference is that Jhin appreciates the good parts ("Your war was a good production") even as he criticises people's weaknesses, whereas Aurelion calls everyone and everything mediocre and beneath him. Aurelion touting his own horn so much just makes him seem childish.

If you have a lot of power and have been alive longer than most, you're going to look down on those less powerful, with short lives, and who you deem unworthy. Classic stories of gods and dragons being outwitted are common, often because of their pride or arrogance.

So yes, star dragon with centuries/ages/whatever of wisdom and knowledge can still be a condescending asshole. It'd be surprising if he wasn't.

Definitely interested! I'd personally love to hear a little about the inspirations/mentality behind new champ VOs or updated VOs when they're released. Character design has always been a passion of mine, so learning how you guys pull off the vocals for these champs would be amazing.
