Exactly Why are Noxus and Demacia at war? What started this rivalry?

When kingdoms and empires start wars, it's because of disagreement or one deciding to conquer the other. There were some small places like those in Magga's story in Kindred's a good death who aren't a part of them two. Was it because Noxus wanted to conquer those land and demacia wasn't allowing it? Wouldn't that make Demacia no different from Noxus? "Since we are proctecting you, you are hereby now under Demacian rule." Idk. I'd really like to know exactly what started the fighting.

Also, wat's a kingdom to an Empire?

Yeah I think a better question to ask would be "what are the possible therories about why Noxus and Demacia are at war?" Cause other then a clashing of ideals the community doesn't know for sure why. But we could have an educated guess.

If we go with drawing parallels with the real world, it could just be that they started a conflict over who gets more land to control. But considering LoL's world should be full of fantastical events, maybe there could be more than that one reason. But either way, that part deserves to be told in the lore.

They are the runetera most powerfouls nations, they have opposing idea, they probabily have been fighting since their foundation or even before. Right now they don't need a particular reason to fight but a situation like the one you describe is plausible. What started the war? Nobody knows, maybe lands, gold, ideas, runes, history.

I also think demacia and noxus have similar power, noxus is an empire because it conquered territories while demacia only "protect" other territories but they are only formally independent so it remain a kingdom

Little late here: I doubt either side even remembers or cares about what started their conflict. It's kinda like the Hatfields and McCoys fued, going on for a long ass time because of this eternal cycle of revenge.

I believe they were at war for a good while before J1 reign, as Boram referred to them as their hated enemies.

The reason could be as large as a territorial conflict or as minuscule as a disagreement between former friends.

iirc Noxus started the war by invading some land of Demacia which obviously they didn't take kindly to so the war started but to help preserve peace the League was created for foreign disputes between the two sides... then Noxus invaded Ionia who didn't take kindly to it so they sent people to the League and then you had some random people coming to fight as mercenaries or simply to fight. None of it matters any more now that the lore has been gutted, but that's I think what happened drawing from my early League days (not entirely sure about Noxus and Demacia due to land disputes, but I know Noxus did try to invade Ionia at some point, they even had a game for the dispute and that game is why we have Ionian boots today :D, oh such memories...)

Because they are near Antithesis of each other. They see each other's way of life in dangerous conflict with their own.

There is a couple reasons I can think of:

Based on Kled's VO and Bio, Noxus will take land AS LONG as they believe themselves to be stronger. However, I think Noxus has some form of honor in that if their opponent proves to be stronger, they will allow them to keep their land as ling as they prove that they are stronger than Noxus. However, something tells me internal corruption in Noxus defies this rule of honor and wants to force a war with Demacia despite them proving their strength.
Demacia might see Noxus as a scourge upon the world and feel the need to drive them out. Their acts of strength and honor might well be seen as acts of barbarianism and evil in the eyes of Demacia, making them feel the need to wipe this evil off the face of Runeterra. However, as evidenced by some previous Demacia v Noxus events, I think it is mainly the inner corruption in Noxus that the wisest of Demacian warriors want to drive out of this world, even if that means destroying the nation as a whole.

Basically, I wouldn't be surprised if the likes of Swain, LeBlanc, and Vladimir have been fueling this war for a long, long time. The organization LeBlanc is in (Black Rose right?) is likely the main offender in making this war last for so long.

Given the way these nations go about their business, I can see their conflict spawning from Noxus growing, trying to claim the lands Demacia had sway over, and being wholly unsuccessful despite vastly outnumbering the Demacians. This eventually boiled over until Demacia pushed Noxus back entirely, which birthed a massive rivalry as this would be one of the only times a nation wasn't conquered by Noxus when it went there with the intent to conquer.

Right now I don't know if Noxus and Demacia are in active war with each other or anyone, since the Ionian invasion's still up in the air and stuff. At the very least they still brawl on their borders if Sion's short story's anything to go by.
