I'm not sure I like this; he is essentially Institute of War era Xerath now. And Xerath is a mustache twirling villain. Ye gods, they've swapped archetypes! That said, this is a huge departure from Veigar's established character, which is evil for its own sake, a penchant for megalomania, and frightening power. Veigar is the card carrying villain of League, there was nothing misunderstood about him; he spent years locked up in a cell, went insane, and decided to conquer the world.

He is still a card-carrying villain, and he always twirled a mustache.

But, yeah, I still hope he is the most evil of all the yordles. I feel like he is a generally evil guy, but his yordle nature prevents him from being as such, because yordles are generally benevolent magical creatures.

Honestly, he's kind of like an affably evil lich; he's evil, and is searching for knowledge at any cost, but he'd probably invite the "hero" (let's say Teemo or Tristana or whoever) to lunch just to establish that he's the villain and they're supposed to try and defeat him.

My belief is that he will still want to take over the world, or at least Bandle City.

He is, but what makes him Veigar and not Dick Dastardly is scale; Dick Dastardly kidnaps people and ties them to railroads, Veigar could tear apart the underpinnings of reality.

Hmhmhm my current impression of the new lore is as follows, he is probably looking to takeover the world, with magic, same as before.

But he is doing it to enforce equality and better living standards for those he conquer, and he is looking to educate all the peasants in magic for the sake of mayhem, and more magic.

This. Honestly, I think that new Veigar's going to be a mix of Dr. Doofenshmirtz (Phineas and Ferb), Plankton (Spongebob), and the Brain (Pinky and the Brain). All of which are cartoony but extremely likable villains (even though the Brain is a protagonist, he's still kind of a villain).

Judged on its own, this lore is actually pretty good.

However, being judged and compared to his old lore, it kind of demotes Veigar.

Yeah, I know Veigar is never really meant to be taken seriously in game, but his past lore was pretty dark.

I guess they're just trying to make in game veigar and lore veigar the same tho, so that makes sense.

Honestly felt inevitable for him and other yordles to have at least some level of changes to lore due to the yordles becoming more mysterious and magical.

All of this. Half the fun of Veig is that he juxtaposed his appearance and yordle stereotypes. Giving him a Grinch heart literally ruins that. It's bad writing to change it to this.

True as that may be, Veigar doesn't employ pretense regarding his motivations, he's openly evil, loudly proclaiming he's evil as he commits evil for the sake of being evil.

I don't know. One one side, it kind of fits him; but in the other, Veigar was like the opposite of Poppy before: While she was a more serious Yordle who didn't really enjoy being with her own people, Veigar was a normal Yordle who got isolated by force, and experienced the consequences. This bio hints that he willingly plays at being a villain now, rather than believing himself as one as a result of insanity.
