He's one of the most interesting characters to me lore-wise, as well as my favorite ADC in the game and while what he has now is fine, I would like to see it expanded upon. I feel there's a lot of potential in him as a character, as well as potential in the corruption that consumed him.
He will likely get a lore update once they update the ionia-champions. Though I think Ionia might be one of the very last places to be updated for several reasons: 1.It has more champions than any other nation,so other factions can be done a lot faster.
2.A lot of ionian champs are connected to the war between Noxus and Ionia,so it would make sense to update Noxus before Ionia.
3.These lore updates tend to come together with new champions or VGUs and while we have no idea what champions are getting released next year,we do know that WW and Galio are the next big VGUs,thus it seems likely that Zaun and Demacia are getting the next lore updates(its pretty much guaranteed in Zauns case,I mean the piltover page already has a zaun-section) and the only ionian champs who are known to be on the VGU list are Irelia and Akali(and akali doesn't seem to be much of a priority),so we don't know if an ionian champion will even get a VGU next year.

Jaredan teased at least three times on his ASKfm page that, internally, Varus has a lot of narrative development (which Jaredan himself is very excited for).
Also, considering the blight (the thing that corrupted Varus) is a thing in Zaun, and has been mentioned as a story hook, with The Weakest Heart story, they probably have some plans for Varus and the blight.
