My guess is that they are space parasites that turn other species into eternum We got a lot of info from Cassiopeia's splash art and trailer.

Originally inspired by other worldly metal-based aliens from the darkness beyond galaxies that appear in many sci-fi universes (Borg, Reapers, Replicants, Necrons, Phyrexians etc.), with the release of Dreadnova GP there was some thought about folding Eternum into this universe. If Nocturne and Rek'sai are more natural alien forms of these metallic monsters then Cassiopeia was imagined more like a 'Queen' form, or alternatively a hybrid created to communicate with the Humans this alien race has now encountered and warred against. Either way she has a more relatable mind and appearance, although at this very moment I am watching Species 2 and wondering if it's just another alien trick to kill us all.

On the side note of Phyrexia - was any of Lissandra's design based off Elesh Norn from New Phyrexia? Her design is really similar ( mainly having a head boomerang) and her Bloodstone splash art looks akin to Elesh Norn's Marrow Shards

Yeah I never knew how cool Magic The Gathering is until like an hour ago haha. I've been reading up on some of the lore & stuff and the artwork is amazing! I have no interest in playing but shit, I want to go buy some of these cards for the artwork.

It really stands alone as a fantasy juggernaut. They've been creating amazing and original worlds and characters for over 25 years and it's hard to pitch any idea without the 'Simpsons Did It' effect, except it's 'MtG Did It!'. Clestial gods? Theros. Otherworldly corruption? Eldrazi. Machine-monsters? Phyrexia. There are expansions inspired by almost every region and culture of our history and stories featuring every kind of imaginable character archetype, magics and races. I think MtG, Warcraft and Warhammer 40k are the three most expansive and awesome universes in modern gamer-culture.

That was before my time, but I know Trevor Claxton worked on the concept and he is known for a lot of abstract sci fi design. I think he once told me it was an idea sort of like merging her head with a B-2 Stealth Bomber.

As an aside I absolutely love MtG, Elesh Norn is best Praetor (your Praetor is trash) and I've been a fan of the Phyrexians since 1998.

Back on track though - Eternum Cassiopeia's splash just looks like them so much I love it, it convinced me to go out and try her and she's so much fun to play

That's great to hear! There's nothing better in League than when you discover a champion that jives with you. This was my first season playing J4 and I love his dumb butt.

While Eternum has not been given official storyline or lore like the Star Guardian and Project skin lines, I believe the Dreadnova and Eternum skins are in the same Universe. Not 100% on that though

It'd be kinda cool to see the Warhammer-esque humans fighting these monsters that are part energy/part machine.

They bear a really strong resemblance to the Phyrexians from Magic the Gathering. Terrifying bio mechanical monstrosities who travel from world to world assimilating all creatures to be like them
