Well, we know part of the reason she got adopted.
Quinn's bio mentions the moment her brother died at the fury of a tuskboar while trying to save the **BELLEVUE ** family. The matriarch's heirs (her children) died that day. I can only assume that she adopted Sona as a way for her family to go on as well as to fill the void that the tragedy left behind.

Now that I've read Quinns lore it actually seems surprising that they didn't update Sonas lore,as Quinns lore is actually related to Sonas(as Quinn saved Sonas adoptive parents,but their children died)
