Mordekaiser VFX/icons feedback: Why does the Master of Metal now have no metal?

Hey Riot, what's the deal with these new VFX for Mordekaiser?

Sure, they look cool, but they don't match his theme at all! What happened to "You can't kill the metal"?

  • Iron Man got changed from a suit of metal armor surrounded by **LIGHTNING!** to a blue glowy shield.

  • Mace of Spades went from Morde's mace crackling with **LIGHTNING! **to his mace being glowy and blue.

  • Creeping Death [Harvester of Sorrow] got changed from a flying cloud of _metal shrapnel_ into a blue glowy stream with bits of rock in it.

  • Siphon of Destruction got changed from a gauntlet surrounded by **LIGHTNING!** to, once again, glowy blue stuff.

Essentially they seem to have visually scrapped the concept of Mordekaiser, the Master of Metal, having power over metal. He now only has power over spooky ghost soul stuff. That's BORING, Riot. We already have at least three champs who do that [Hecarim, Karthus, and Thresh].

Lorewise, Mordekaiser is distinct as having existed before the Shadow Isles were a thing. Themewise, he's THE MASTER OF METAL. AKA he should be looking like he stepped straight off an 80s rock cover, like Metallica's Ride the Lightning: Shiny steel and bolts of lightning everywhere, plus his trademark flying shrapnel.

Can we please get back some of Morde's metal and lightning? He's not the Master of Generic Spooky Ghost Stuff. Making a champion less unique is not an upgrade.

More like this Mordekaiser and less like these Hecarim Kalista Karthus Thresh please!

actually besides being the master of metal, he is a soul tormentor. He has power over people's souls to torment them from beyond the grave. So soul aura around his abilities actually makes more sense than lightning. He doesn't have power over lightning. But I agree the should put more metal in his abilities

As far as the VFX goes:

Q: Very satisfying sound, but the indicator of which strike it is looks lazily implemented. 1! 2!! 3!!! looks severely out of place. I know the mace changes colors with each hit, but sometimes that's difficult to notice in a teamfight.

W: I would rather have a tornado of shards of metal than a soul vortex. Lots of champions command or trap souls, Morde can bend metal to his will. It's an opportunity to make him unique.

E: Was that Morde's E, or did he just sneeze? Sometimes I can barely tell I used the ability, since it easily gets lost if multiple things are happening at once. Old E you know landed because a giant mace would fly up from the ground and smash the unit. It needs to look like it has more impact, even if it's not Morde's main source of damage anymore.

Mordekaiser's signature move is his ultimate, which allows him to enslave the souls of his enemies. Him being the Master of Metal seemed more like a kind of joke to associate him with Pentakill, and his massive armor, rather than powers over the element. Viktor is far more a "Master of Metal" than Mordekaiser, and I'd rather see Mordekaiser become this imposing King of the Damned of the Shadow Isles with the power of death at his fingertips rather than someone who is just a crappier Magneto.

Sounds like riot might have to line Morde up for a full relaunch after Yorick...
