It's really unusual how there's so much fixtation on Varus and none of the other lore.

There's all sorts of really bad writing in the lore if you look for it, but HUH....STRANGELY, all that people care about is the GAY DUDE. Oh, but that's just because they changed his lore!!!!!!! STRICTLY ONLY BECAUSE OF THAT.

Yeaaaah okay, if you want me to believe that, then how come there weren't these massive passionate discussions about lore before THE ONE AND ONLY GAY CHARACTER SHOWS UP? It's so fucking obvious and you all dance around and pretend "oh no I'm not a homophobe" well, shit guys.

From what I can see, you as a collective whole have never responded so energetically as you have been responding to Varus's lore change. What am I supposed to think when the one and only gay character causes a gigantic brouhaha of outrage amongst gamers, and meanwhile they aren't freaking out over every other straight character's lore? Honestly, how do I not parse that as homophobia?

By taking off your homophobia goggles and realizing this has nothing to do with the gay couple.

Also, if you think THIS is the only time the community has ever been this outraged, you're either highly ignorant or blissfully unaware of what happens on these Boards(were you here for Galio's/Fiora's/literally any mass scale rework?).

It's the same reaction as with Trundle, Poppy, Galio and Karma. Riot too a character that was completely or mostly serviceable lore or gameplay wise, only needing a couple of tweaks to fit and butchered them, replacing them with what could have been more compelling as a new champion entirely.

Varus was compelling as a champion as the man with literally nothing to lose. Now he's just a mess since Riot forced three people into an established champion and I personally can't be arsed to even remember all the names, almost like the whole Atreus/pantheon deal.

Bullshit. Everytime there's a lore change there's talk about it like in Burning Tides and Ahri.

All of this started when the short form was pushed to the PBE before there was a whiff of sexuality tied to the story. There was only a calm before the release of the video because Riot asked people to hold back their criticism until the full lore release. It is literally impossible for that criticism to be about homosexuality because it didn't even occur to people at the time that the two hunters could be gay.

Now, why did this lore change receive such a strong reaction while no one is talking about the other lore changes?

The fact that there was a music video tied to this lore change meant that it was more public than most lore changes so more of the playerbase became informed of it and could then complain about it.
It's completely impossible to talk about other lore changes during any period except directly after right when it happens because not enough of the boards users care about the lore of any specific champion. Any thread made falls right off the front page and is left to die.
