I have mixed feelings about Gangplank and Miss. Fortune

For the record, I loved the story. This has set a new standard for lore and I hope Riot improves. Having said that, a part of me misses the old Gangplank. While I'll never call him a good man, I never would have taken him as the type to murder an entire family, burn their workshop, and destroy the guns he wanted made purely out of spite. I think it's a bit out of character even for the new Gangplank. He seems like a brutally fair man.

As for Miss Fortune, I'm happy that she had her past concluded, which was also developed. However, I feel conflicted on her now darker, more brutal and manipulative personality. I feel bad for her, but can't help but judge her either. I can accept having a burning hatred for Gangplank, but I liked their "friendly" rivalry, especially when it was thought that he was the boy that saved her when they were younger.

My biggest question however is the Harrowing Event. Is the part involving these two canon? I can't see her working together with the man that caused her so much pain.

I actually find the idea of them having to work together to (barely) fend off a Harrowing, quite interesting actually. It happened before Miss Fortune revealed her out-and-out hatred for Gangplank, so while she might be seething inside at having to sail alongside him, it's certainly not an act that she hadn't had to put on before.

I imagine it playing out where she almost seemed flattered that the great and powerful Captain Gangplank would call her up to assist in his epic fight against the Shadow Isles incursion. And Captain Gangplank would be playing it off like it was throwing the other captains a bone to even let them come along - as he's obviously too powerful to need 'help'.

In the end, they work together because otherwise Bilgewater would have been completely overrun, and neither of them want that. The mental gymnastics that both had to go through to make that temporary alliance right in their heads would probably have kept several psychologists busy for years.

I don't like the way they turned MF all dark and broody. I always saw her as "the fun one" of the ADCs. Not a fan of turning her into a generic "grr revenge revenge grr" character. They might as well change all her dialogue, because it doesn't gel with the character in the story at all. Nothing in that story makes me think that was a character on which MFs Strut ability would make any sense, much less with big floating hearts popping out of her. She doesn't sound like the type of person that would give her guns names. It just doesn't sound like Miss Fortune.

@Chromatic Eagle I feel like you're writing what I was thinking and lacked the words to express. This darker gangplank who is painted to be a fully blackhearted killer... that's not the gangplank I knew. I feel like they painted him as black as possible so it would be _ok _to abruptly kill him off. I know it's "en vogue" to up and destroy people with no buildup, but not when the character is freshly re-minted for the express purpose. :/ And yeah, it makes the harrowing event less believable. If their rivalry was so public, wouldn't he have been more wary? The way they had a simple "everyone left" plot device to excuse a bomb being planted, it feels forced.
