So apparently the Lunari and Solari repelled or will repel an invasion of the void

It's heavily implied in Diana's lore that warriors clad in silver and gold would be fighting monsters pouring from the sky and her flavor text even depicts her battling three voidborn monstrosities.

I'm now imagining Solari, Lunari and Ascended warriors all teaming up to beat back the alien invaders of Icathia.

Also I'm even more of the opinion now that of all the realms that intersect with Runeterra, the Void never did naturally but was made to through magical interference. The way the Voidborn react to Runeterra's atmosphere just makes me think the connection between the two planes was never meant to be.

I did not interpret the beasts or terrors as void creatures, even though that WAS my first thought. I think this is something else entirely, as in none of the past void lores have they been described as turning in to ectoplasm (or whatever that goo they turned in to was) after being killed. They were also described as being the enemies of Aspects on past worlds, whereas we know from what Rioters have said that the Void was created on Runeterra in some event that I can not remember the name of right now... I'm pretty sure they aren't void creatures, but I could be proved wrong.

Yeah I'm not sold on this being a void invasion. In old lore, the void is described as a place between worlds, but in Leona's new lore, it describes what's going on as a universe scale cosmic battle between strange horrors (inhuman entities and pallid, eyeless strangers that came down the mountain) and cosmic protectors (the aspects)

What sets this apart from the void is that all of our void champs and creatures are distinctly animal in nature. Cho has six identifiable limbs and looks like a reptilian insect thing. Vel has squid/octopus tentacles. Kha is literally an insect. Rek Sai is like a.. mole rat/centipede. You can easily describe their features. When Diana was attacked by one of the monsters, "it split apart, revealing a glutinous mass of sense organs and hooked teeth." That's indescribable lovecraft horror right there. Since when are void creatures covered in eyes with gaping orifices all over their bodies? None of the void creatures melt into otherworldly tar when defeated. I will admit, purple and evolving lend itself to the void, but the rest are very different. Not to mention Kassadin and Malz became infused with purple before they left Icathia/the void, not once they left.

Maybe I'm wrong, but with the current information we have on the void, the targonian horrors don't share many similarities. Hopefully we'll get a void lore rework to either distance or unite these two ideas.

Don't dragons also come from the sky? Why not Void Dragons?

There's a chance one of the empty champion slots on the Targon site is Taric. Lore-wise he didn't fit in from anywhere, so needing completely rewritten would be a good reason to toss him into Targon's Lore. A tall rugged mountain would no doubt be a good place to find many outrageous gems.

I'm really excited to see this development.

Connecting Mount Targon to the Void, though at first I thought was a little odd (yet still awesome, as the Void is my favorite area of the LoL-verse), actually makes sense. Since Targon has the Solari, who venerate the sun like the Shurimans, it implies they might be situated relatively close by and perhaps even had cultural exchanges. Since the Void is mainly coming through Shurima, yet they have history with Mount Targon, that can imply Icathia may be located somewhere between Shurima and Targon, and that the Void is infesting both areas.

I'll admit, I was never the most interested in Targon lore, but the connection with the Void got me super-stoked for it.

I think the lore was implying that the Void has encroached there before (which is why the land is so inhospitable now but nice in Diana's vision of the past) and is starting to do so again (as shown by the void monsters Diana fights). So it is probably an "and" instead of an "or".

Right? Super rad. I'm ready for Leona and Diana to stand back to back and demolish an army of the Void.

I just love the way Leona called down Solar Flare in her lore Slam fist into ground and make it rain fire

FrostyDog2/26/2016, 4:54:43 PM1 votes

I would assume Pantheon would be there to help fight as would Aurelion Sol

In other words, the Targon vs Void equivalent to Shadow and Fortune.

Could be a pretty cool way to reintroduce everyone's favorite giant bug dinosaur back into the lore :>
