Are we ever getting a lore Q&A on the boards?

Anything I can answer?

Does Camille have sheaths for her blades or prosthetic legs for when she's doesn't need them? How big and populace is Piltover/Zaun and the surrounding counties? Is it the size of NY, Tokyo etc?

RiotBioluminescence3 votes

I'm afraid other than the map, I'm not the expert on these sorts of things, but I can fairly confidently say that both Piltover and Zaun have populations greater than could normally be supported by the territory around them, due to the influx of wealth and goods from trade. They're less like your typical historical city, surrounded by massive amounts of farmland - they effectively outsource most of that sort of thing. I don't have a good handle on the relative population totals, sorry.

Whats the name of the seas from east and west of Piltover which are between the North and South parts of the previous supercontinent.

RiotBioluminescence3 votes

I personally can't share the names for all the seas (and as Gangplank states, there's an awful lot of them) but far to the East of Piltover, just North of Bilgewater, is where the Guardian's Sea hangs out these days.

I hope that helps - turns out I'm not very useful in this thread after all :(

I don't fault you for trying. It's more than the Narrative team seems to want to do on their own boards.

For the record, I'm sick and tired of seeing all those (alleged) AMAs on Reddit where they only answer softball questions and never really address anything significant, like how they plan on addressing their communication failures here and now they have to wait for special events to update content when we were told that wasn't a necessity.

I'm just waiting for the moment when Warwick's rework is released and all that region's lore gets updated for Jaredan to tell us that the new lore doesn't need to be tied to an event.

RiotBioluminescence2 votes

So, you have a valid point, and I'd like to ask about your last statement.

It seems to me, that when stories and lore updates are released on something like the Piltover micro site, there's a lot of disappointment that it's not part of a bigger, all singing, all dancing, event of the scale of Burning Tides or more. (I miss Burning Tides, myself, too.)

When you say you'd rather content was updated unconnected to special events, do you mean more like it's a random Tuesday, and unconnected to anything else, a story drops? When Universe went live and we found a few more champ stories (like the sad Ekko one) was that more what you were after?

Can you elaborate, if you're not fed up doing so, ofc.

I'd be glad to, if you don't mind my chopping up your quote to address certain points.

It seems to me, that when stories and lore updates are released on something like the Piltover micro site, there's a lot of disappointment that it's not part of a bigger, all singing, all dancing, event of the scale of Burning Tides or more. (I miss Burning Tides, myself, too.)

Burning Tides was special: It was the first set of significant new lore since the Freljord Patch of 2013 and the big RetCon in 2014 (which is another issue entirely), the start of the bromance between Graves and Twisted Fate, Gangplank's "rework" and MF's change from "shameless flirt" to "hardcore b----," a fleshed out Bilgewater (which still lacks a real map) the Black Market Brawlers ARAM mode, etc.

Not every release that includes new lore can be that extensive and epic, which makes it a bit disappointing. Then again, not everything at Riot can syncopate that well every time (or ever again, lol).

When you say you'd rather content was updated unconnected to special events, do you mean more like it's a random Tuesday, and unconnected to anything else, a story drops?

I wish the cadence for these story releases wasn't wholly tied into new incoming content or some special event.

For example:

  • The first Shurima update was for Azir and the second was for Taliyah.
  • "Burning Tides" was built around the second Gangplank rework.
  • "Mt. Targon" was made around the Taric rework and Aurelion Sol's release.
  • The most recent updates to the Shadow Isles happened around Yorick's rework.
  • This Piltover event was fabricated on the release of Camille.

As I said earlier, I fully expect a huge lore update for Zaun when Warwick's rework is finished and for Demacia when Galio is ready. That's really annoying, especially when we were told by Narrative that new content wouldn't be tied to new content.

When Universe went live and we found a few more champ stories (like the sad Ekko one) was that more what you were after?

No. Once again, the release of that new content required a tie-in event (Universe going live) and led to another softball-filled Reddit AMA (and not on these boards) that didn't attempt to answer any of the tough questions that has plagued this Narrative team since the Freljord patch (which had a different Narrative Lead) and the RetCon (which had another Narrative Lead).

It would be nice if new stories could be released when they're ready and not require a tie-in to some upcoming release and if the Rioters in Narrative would unclench their hindquarters and have meaningful communication with their fans on THESE boards and not on Reddit..

Hope this elaboration helps, but I really doubt if anyone within Narrative and Foundations will actually **want **to do anything to address them. :)

Eh no worries, I knew that's be one that probably wasn't to be answered just yet. Have fun at your meeting!

I had Camille questions but I forgot.

Which parts of Camille are still human, like say, limbs or organs?

Are her hips and thighs natural or metal?

Are there homeless people in Piltover? How often do Zaunites interact with Piltover?

What started the augmenting craze?

What was the city like before hextech? Did hextech give them the push to be the top trade city, or were they always successful?

Who created chemtech?

If there's no official government in Piltover, and it's ran by the clans, what are their laws like? Why push for heavy scientific regulation but then have clans steal from each other?

What's the interaction, if any, between wardens, sheriffs, and those like Camille?

Are there any notable places that Ezreal has been to, like the Shadow Isles, or MT. Targon?

How is constructing an artificial heart more difficult than a brain, and does Orianna predate Camille?

How old, since her "rebirth", is Orianna?

How close is Zaun to Piltover? Apparently people can run or walk from one city to the other in a few minutes or hours.

Besides Camille's family, are there other notable clans that we'll see?

Why hasn't Noxus invaded Piltover like it has Ionia and maybe Demacia? Do Noxians still have ties to Zaun?

Why must there be a balance between Piltover and Zaun? I think I know the answer, but it seems like Piltover wouldn't want to be associated with Zaun.

Will Zaun's page reveal the cause of the upheaval, and why the two districts have such different views on it?

So many questions, and so few I can help with. Sorry :( I'll answer where I can.

I had Camille questions but I forgot.

...How often do Zaunites interact with Piltover?

Some Zaunites never leave their neighborhood, and eventually some Zaunites become so adapted that they can't leave Zaun. However, there's a healthy amount of interaction between the two, especially at the areas where they are closest. The deeper into Zaun you get, the stranger it would be to see a Piltie, though.

...How is constructing an artificial heart more difficult than a brain, and does Orianna predate Camille?

Hearts occupy a special position in Runeterra - it's a more poetic or symbolic take in a way. I know that doesn't make much sense to us, but you can think of the brain as the source of decisions, the heart is the power source. Really important power source.

...How close is Zaun to Piltover? Apparently people can run or walk from one city to the other in a few minutes or hours.

Very close, but they're both pretty big cities. So there are places on the outer edges of both cities that would take many hours to get to the other side, but at their closest points, they're pretty much overlapping.

...Besides Camille's family, are there other notable clans that we'll see?

Well, we've heard of the Medarda clan (mentioned in the Progress Day story, and Jago Medarda is the owner of the Medarda Heirloom map).

Why hasn't Noxus invaded Piltover like it has Ionia and maybe Demacia? Do Noxians still have ties to Zaun?

Well, Noxus is a bit like Batman in that respect. Batman always has a plan for how to take down everyone - even his closest friends. Especially his closest friends. Just because Batman hasn't taken you down, doesn't mean he's not given it a lot of thought. (Also, mountains, Piltover's pretty fierce navy, risk/reward considerations, and wars on multiple fronts.)

I thought from reading the new stories that Piltover is above Zaun. Like, literally the fastest (if not the healthiest) way from Piltover to Zaun was to jump over a railing (at least in some places). Is that wrong?

Well. Yeeeees. But if you want to survive the journey, you would need to take the stairs, alleyways, elevators/lifts, etc. Maybe it was silly of me to assume you weren't talking about the explosively reactive one-way-ticket version ;)

How many wars is Noxus waging?

So hearts in Runeterra is like Bleach (source of power and such)?

I thought that Camille was Medarda?

No, Camilee is Ferros. (I think there was a mixup the first few minutes of her stories being released, but she is definitely Ferros, not Medarda).

This maybe?

Twitch already has coloured text story, he only needs his main story to be added, same with Heimerdinger.

Since Singed now augments people via chemtech and is some kind of gangsterboss/chembaron, does he still use a wooden plank to punch people?

And on a more serious note: what is the probability of someone being augmented against their will? (Ignoring Viktor on that matter, since we don't know and telling would be a spoiler)

EDIT: Oh, and, considering Urgots rework is still a while, will this affect Zaun lore at all, or is his creation not a major part in it? He was created using Viktors research before, after all (And if I look at him, he really looks like what could have happened if an amateur tried to copy Viktors plans to augment workers... with a corpse).

I think there may be instances of people who were augmented without their consent (they "never asked for this") if they were unable to give consent, but as for against their will - I don't currently know.

The League subreddit has a larger amount of users than the boards, so a Q&A there is far further reaching than it'd be on the boards.

Chromatic Eagle4 votes

Isn't the whole point of making these boards to encourage more users here?

Star Guardían1 votes

What triggers you about Reddit?

Chromatic Eagle2 votes

Mainly the fact that I'm too lazy to make an account. However, I'd like to think that when Riot goes out of their way to make the boards similar to reddit, that they should probably try to get more people here. It's like Blizzard spending more time on Twitter than their forums, but at least it's because Twitter is easier to type.

Star Guardían1 votes

It's pretty easy to make a Reddit account. You don't even need an email. But I see what you mean.

Beyond Legends1 votes

We got one for the Shurima and the Targon update didn't we. I really don't see why giving the last few to reddit is an bad thing.

Chromatic Eagle2 votes

Personally I don't see why we can't have both.

Beyond Legends1 votes

It's a still time that Rioter has to spens out of their day instead of writing stories or workinh on skins. Beside it's not like Reddit is very hard to open.
