New Lore Trivia for the Start of the Game

Thanks to Surrender at 20 for adding a paste bin for it. There are many new lore trivia (and tips) that they added and touched up on trivia at the start of the game. Some we already know but some are quite new:

"Many Voidborn have names originating from the ancient Shuriman language." More connection between the Void and Shurima

"Sai Kahleek is one of Shurima's most feared deserts, as it is populated by the ravenous Xer'Sai." We now know the name to where the Xer'Sai lives

"Basilisks of the Kumungu are sometimes raised from eggs as Noxian war beasts." Interesting tidbit here. Would love to see art for this.

"The Incognium Runeterra in Piltover is said to be able to locate anyone in Runeterra, yet its creator mysteriously died before revealing the formula that powers it, leaving it inoperable." I don't know if this is new or not but it sounds really awesome. More backstory please!

"In the Shuriman city of Nashramae, a festival is held celebrating Rammus. Thousands gather to roll and somersault around the city in his honor." I wanna visit this festival!

"The Shuriman city of Zuretta is ruled by Hierophant Hadiya Nejem, who believes herself to be a descendant of the Ascended warrior Setaka." This is very new. We only know Setaka from as Sivir's weapon is from her. But this new character Hadiya believing that she's ascended from Setaka could create backlash between her and Sivir. I want to see her more in the future, maybe even a new champion?

"In Shurima, those who survived a failed Ascension ritual are known as the Baccai, who often are twisted and malformed." We don't know any 'Baccai' right now. A new coming lore character soon?

The bit about the Baccai really interests me.

When Cassio got a new background a lot of people questioned why she was cursed with something that resembles the ascended,but what if her form is actually meant to resemble a Baccai?(Of course she isn't one,as she wasn't transformed by the sun disc,I'm just saying that the curse is meant to imitate a Baccai)

Having seen what Baccai look like I'm pretty sure Cassiopeia doesn't fall in to that category. They actually look malformed with some disproportionate features and not looking entirely like the creature they should have been, as opposed to Cass whose sort of half changed in a very literal sense.

Ah ok,thats good to know.

Though I wonder what causes someone to become a Baccai?In the shurima lore it mentions that the unworthy are usually just eradicated. Is it because the person attempting to ascend actually did something so horrible,that the sun disc punishes them for it or is the transformation into a baccai kind of a consolation price for those who are conisdered good enough to be not eradicated,but not good enough to become ascended? Or is it caused simply due to a messup with the ascension ritual?

Baccai are often shunned because it's believed they were never worthy of Ascension to begin with, and their new form is representative of their hubris as individuals. Considering Azir's manner of ascension there might be some truth to that.

An interesting thought though; would Azir have Ascended before his death, or become a Baccai? Was him saving Sivir the thing that ensured his Ascenscion, or would he have gotten it back before Shurima's fall?

Is Xerath a Baccai? Didn't he fail the Ascension?

No no, Xerath's Ascension was corrupted because of his manipulation of the ritual to get even more out of it than he reasonably should have. His is a unique Ascension and isn't linked to the Baccai.

But wasn't he unworthy? What would happen if Xerath didn't drain Power of the Sun? Would he become a baccai?

Potentially, or he'd just get blown to smithereens like most folks did.

If most of people got blown by the ritual, then why would some unworthy people become Baccai?

Perhaps they were almost there, but just a bit short, or perhaps there's other elements at play that define one's worth for Ascension. The Shurimans certainly didn't have all the answers, so some of their thoughts on the who should or could ascend were potentially based on their own cultural views rather than any solid evidence beyond who lived or died.

Are Baccai weaker than the Ascended? If they're, how much?

Also, will we ever have deeper search for Baccai? Like picture, lore, or even as champion?

Couldn't tell you of when we'll see more about the Baccai, as I just don't know, but I would say they're probably weaker, I mean they need to eat, which I don't think the Ascended need. I do hope we get more about the Baccai in the future; I'm super interested in them.

Interesting that there are enough survivors of failed Ascensions that they have their own name.

Incognium Runeterra was mentioned in some of the Piltover lore as a mysterious machine with a missing inventor. Awesome to know what it does now. Ezreal do your thing.

EDIT. Here's are some more cool ones:

Some Shuriman nomads have created entire towns upon the backs of the Dormun; enormous, armor-plated beasts that wander the wastes.

Why do we not have art of this?

Rumble's mech is named ''Tristy,'' in honor of a yordle who is very important to him.

One tidbit mentions basilisks as noxian warbeasts and I'd like to know more about them. Are they giant lizards or snakes? How many feet do they have? Can their gaze kill you/turn you to stone?

Also I wonder if Trundle is an iceborn. Because one bit mentions that only iceborn(or those who are descendants of an iceborn) are able to use true-ice weapons.

I don't know about the gaze thing but they're really big; comparable to elephants, though they've got more length than height. They're quadrapeds, and are pretty lizard like, though their heads are more big and round rather than long and flat like a lizards.

Nah Trundle's no iceborn. As far as I'm aware the only iceborn that have ever existed were humans. His use of True Ice could potentially come from frost trolls being more naturally in tune with the Freljord's magic, or at least that's what I like to think.

I've got a few that have been picking at my brain for a bit.

  • How does True Ice work? Is it something that just spawns naturally, or is it the result of some sort of ancient magic (or both, or neither)?

  • How temperamental are the Brackern usually? I'd like to believe they're pretty peaceful when no one's harvesting their guts for hextech, but what do I know.

  • Is there any specific reason Valor decided to help Quinn the day she was attacked by the tuskvore?

  • What role do the Raptor Knights play in Demacia? Are they part of the military? Are they common or rare? Do they still exist?

  • What was the Blessed Isles like before it fell to ruin? I think I remember reading it was mostly a monastic place with peaceful inhabitants, but are there any other cool things about it we might not know?

  • As far as I'm aware True Ice is naturally occuring. It's magical by nature but I dunno how it forms.
  • Pretty sure they're mostly a peaceful, albiet closed off species. They live in harmony with eachother and given Skarner's own opinions about his attacks against humans, I feel it's safe to say Brackern didn't think too much on being incredibly violent.
  • Who knows? Valor's got his own reasons for doing things.
  • They mostly scout for dangers and harrass enemy lines. The raptors have wings that are almost like feathered bat wings, complete with a pair of free digits they can use to grab hold of things and claw people.
  • It was an idyllic place of natural beauty, and the civilisation founded there lived in harmony with that nature. Was a very nice place to live all things considered.

Have the native void creatures we see in game except for Rek'Sa been seen by any native Runterra inhabitants? I just get the feeling that Cho'Gath's presence isnt exactly subtle and neither is Vel'Koz's research

I thought Piltover created the waterway?

  • Piltover didn't come in to the lime light until after they blew up the cliffs. Zaun's much older than Piltover.

  • I'd say that's likely, I mean Shurima's home to one of the more noticable places of Void infulence in Runeterra.

  • I dunno, I recon Volibear's a bit too big for that. There's plenty of Ursine who could've done it.

  • Either they died or moved on to some higher plane. Regardless they're all gone as far as anyone who ever knew of them's concerned.

  • Don't know if that's the direction they'd take Xin. The raptors are not at all like Skaarl.

  • Not a clue.

How powerful is the average Ursine? How powerful is Volibear then?

Volibear's pretty powerful, far more so than most of the Freljord's cast of champions. For the Ursine I feel it would probably varies depending on the circumstances. There's some among the Ursine who would be what you'd expect out of the Freljord's warriors, and some who're stronger than that, but there are some really scary Ursine beyond them. None are more powerful than Voli I think, but the strongest Ursine are monstrous.

Volibear I'd imagine would tear Nasus a new one. For the rest of the Ursine, again it varies, but the most powerful of them would probably be able to handle Ascended beings. That's my take anyway.

I would never assume Volibear strong that much. It seems like he got lore power up.

Lissandra being blinded by an Ursine was actually canon before already(though only through a rioter comment).

However we don't know if it was actually Volibear or not.

So just noticed something.

Over time we've had name drops for possible gods who all seem to have really unimaginative titles. Eg. • The Bearded Lady: Serpent Isles in origin. • The Veiled Lady: Demacian in origin. • The Grey Lady: Zaun/Piltover in origin. • The Pale Lady: Noxian in origin

I could be mistaken about that last one, it might be a title for LeBlanc rather than an actually worshiped deity. But hey maybe LB is like the Outsider from Dishonored?

Anyway, maybe we'll learn of The Celestial Gentleman sometime? /s

Will we get to know more of Hadiya Najem? Coming from out of no where she is an interesting character to the list of Shurimans. Does she know about Sivir and her weapon as well?

She's probably aware of Sivir by her reputation alone. Nejem was one of many people who cropped up following Shurima's restoration claiming heritage to ancient Shurima to get higher standings in society, like the guy in Bloodline who Nasus burned the face off of when he was testing his blood. Not everyone in Zuretta's convinced by her claim since there's no historical record of Setaka having offspring, but she's the heirophant now so the skeptics will probably keep that to themselves.
