Petricite & Forms of Magic: How is 'magic' classified by the Lore team?

Hey Story Boards (and hopefully Lore team)!

Got an interesting question for you all with the official introduction of Petricite in Galio's new lore. Namely this: is there any information we know about the various forms of magic present in Runeterra and whether or not they are all, ultimately, linked?

To my eye, it seems we have several magical sources:

  • Hextech (Fairly obvious)
  • Spiritualistic (Karma, Shen, Akali, etc)
  • Elemental (Nami, Annie, Lux, etc)
  • Celestial (Bard, Aurelion Sol, Soraka, ...Illaoi?)
  • Necromantic (Mordekaiser, Karthus, Hecarim, Vladimir, etc)
  • Dark Magic (LeBlanc, Elise, Evelynn, possibly Swain)
  • Otherworldly yet non-Celestial (Kayle, Morgana, Nasus, Azir, Diana, Taric, etc)
  • Raw Arcane (Ryze, Xerath)
  • Void (Malzahar, Kassadin)
  • Fey (Lulu)
  • Innate to existence (Malphite, Anivia, Brand, Zyra, Nocturne, etc)
  • Unknown (Fiddlesticks, Shaco, Twisted Fate, Zilean...)

I'm not sure how to categorize many of them, or if these are all the categories, or if I've split some apart.

The big question I have is this:

#Do different types of magic in Runeterra follow different rules?

If I unleashed Brand next to Galio, would Galio awaken? Can Malzahar create portals in Demacia? Is stone sufficient to dull the power of Bard or Aurelion Sol in any meaningful way? Does it effect Hextech creations (I'm guessing yes, since Demacia doesn't seem to have embraced Hextech at all). Does it weaken creatures innately magical like Malphite or Zyra? Or is it limited to, say, "traditional" arcane or dark magic power from the likes of LeBlanc, Xerath, Syndra, Ryze, and the armies of Noxus?

I have a theory that all the sources are either spitirual or celestial. Spiritual is what comes from a "living" being (that may be dead) and Celestial comes from "celestial objects" (planets, stars, etc).

-Hextech uses the spirits of the Brackern, the Brackern gather energy from the planet itself (since they are part minerals). -Spiritualistic... well... use spirits -Elementals ARE spirits of the planet... Annie and Lux are not count here, but Brand, Janna and Anivia do -Celestials are spirits that have the power of celestial objects. -Necromantic use the spirits of the dead beigns. -Dark Magic is any other kind of magic that was corrupted in some way.

-Othewordly magic uses the magic from "celestial objects". This one is hard to explain, but as a clear example lets look at Shurima: They use the powers of the Sun, the Sun was created by a Celestial... so, the sun is basically a big ball of magical celestial energy. Energy that they use for magic . -Arcane as well is magic from the "celestial object". The celestial object that they use is Runeterra, the world runes.

-Void and Fae are Unkown.

We know that the effects of petricite are not limited to conventional dark magic because of how the petricite arrows were able to harm Shyvanna and her mother. you can take this as you may, but it implies that all forms of magic are affected by petricite. This would also loosely explain why there are no vastaya in or nearby Demacia as we know of today, most of which reside in Ionia, a place where magic reigns free and is a considerable distance from the petricite walls of the Demacian kingdom
