Durand is still the one who created Galio in the new lore

#STILL CANON BOYS!!!

Balanced Steps5 votes

Yeah but I just heard the Voiceover, Galio's Quotes are "The guy who made me? He was pretty good right" and "I wish they'd chiselled me a friend someone who won't break."

Not a fan of this character change at all so far especially as it seems a departure from even the newer Sion lore where Sion mentions that he remembers Galio if not other Gargoyles that Durand placed all around the borders of Demacia to ward away Noxians, I thought Sion smashed loads of these and only the tragic Magnus Opus of Durand; Galio was left.

Siachi20 votes

So I remember with Sion, Riot wanted to set him and Galio up as foils to each other (immortal, blood thirsty warrior, vs eternal protective guardian). Though with how massive Galio's rework puts him, it seems like it'd be less of a rivalry and more "Sion is a slightly aggressive ant that Galio has to squish sometimes." Has this been changed, or is the rivalry still there?

RiotReav338 votes

They are still Rivals. Sion is just that awesome!

SuperLuigiLXIV4 votes

Galio's made of anti-magic stone.

Sion was a human battering ram in LIFE that apparently just Hulk smashed his way through everything with his axe.

It makes all of the sense to me that he would be the best answer Noxus has to Galio, particularly after becoming an undead beast <3

Warlord Dienekes9 votes

Really? What makes the most sense to me is getting damn siege equipment.

A lot of siege equipment.

SuperLuigiLXIV4 votes

Yeah, because trebuchets are easy to get set up and can easily avoid a slab of rock coming in like a meteorite.

Much better than, oh say, a thinking being that can not only quickly slip out of ground zero, but actually has the raw physical force to run directly into the impact zone and catch the hit hard enough to stop Galio dead in his tracks.

Just saying, using siege equipment in a world where cannon fire from a pirate ship is never lethal on its own is like using a gun against a ninja in the movies :P

Warlord Dienekes3 votes

How the hell does a man have the ability to hack into marble?

And cannon fire and explosives seem very lethal in the Bilgewater event it's only in gameplay they get nerfed for play reasons.

And unless he got an insane power boost. Sion can't fly, unless Galio is an idiot that should be game over for our brute zombie friend.

SuperLuigiLXIV2 votes

How the heck does marble have the ability to FLY using METAL WINGS?

Logic will be applied everywhere or nowhere, sir :P

Warlord Dienekes7 votes

Galio is an enchanted construct. It breaks physics in a specific way: it's alive it can fly.

Sion is also an enchanted construct in its own way, its magic is: its alive, it can't die.

Unless otherwise shown the axe is still an axe, which will do jack all to a metal and stone construct. And while he may be strong as all get out he still can't fly.

SuperLuigiLXIV8 votes

The axe can stand up to Sion's strength.

Which, as we've established, is enough that if he and Galio ult full-tilt into one another, he doesn't lose in terms of power.

To a magic flying mountain.

That he uses a weapon at all means that weapon must, by default, be far more than "just" anything to withstand his strength.

Consider that Sion can slam said axe into the ground hard enough to cause a localized shockwave that throws everything in it upwards.

That axe was NEVER just any old axe.

Warlord Dienekes8 votes

Gameplay and story divide. We know that Ashe can't actually kill Kindred but she can in game because that's game balance.

We have never established that Sion ulting at Galio would do anything because in the lore world Sion doesn't have an "ult"

My point, we don't actually know what a lore version or Sion can do. I bet it's impressive. But to beat a flying marble Colossus either Sion starts using bullshit anime protagonist powers or Galio is an idiot.

SuperLuigiLXIV2 votes

So, now you're segregating story and gameplay for the purpose of winning an argument?

Okay. Sion's only confirmed to use a standard axe in gameplay, nowhere in the lore does it discuss his weaponry after being turned into a giant zombie.

Your move [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Warlord Dienekes6 votes

No I'm segregating story and gameplay because Riot Reav3 has said that story and gameplay are segregated. I believe the quote was how Sol would destroy almost anyone in one hit and Malphite would be bigger than the actual map.

Sion has an axe. Until further information is provided we do not know what said axe is made of or does. As far as the lore goes he's a brute who can run through armies when he has support.

We are not provided with any means in which Sion can deal with a flying target.

Warlord Dienekes4 votes

Ah. I missed that quote.

That is ridiculously insane. Jesus Christ judging by Galios size and assuming he's solid marble. The force needed to knock over 1 leg would be equivalent to several wrecking balls.

We still haven't gotten to how to get him to fly. But honestly Sion is now so far gone into the bullshit anime powers territory that he would probably just jump. His legs should have enough force to launch him.

Jeez this kind of stuff is why I preferred it when champions were mostly humanoid. At least he physics almost made sense then.

Warlord Dienekes3 votes

It's a limitation of the board. After a certain number of posts down in discussion mode every reply just smushes together to look like it's replying to 1 post.

Glory ln Death2 votes

He can throw the axe.

And rocks. And trees. And people. Heck, all he has to do is head to a nearby village and start slaughtering people to get the flying coward to come down and fight like a man.

DarkRitual2 votes

The same way Vlad can drain blood from Blitzcrank.

Warlord Dienekes3 votes

That's a very firm example of gameplay be story segregation. If, in the unlikely event Vlad met Blitz, he drained Blitz's blood it would be a horrible ass pull.

But, Luigi has already provided me adequate in lore reasons why Sion could work. It's just one of those ridiculous power level maximum reasons I really do not enjoy. But that does not change that it's canon.

Ralanr2 votes

Yeah I don't get it. Sion can hurt Galio because his axe can withstand the force of his swings?

Warlord Dienekes2 votes

The axe is inconsequential. It honestly doesn't matter at this point. Apparently Sion running provides enough force to knock down a 10 story solid marble structure, as claimed by Reav3 in this thread. Once you reach the force needed to do that and place it in a roughly human sized shape (I'll say 8 ft tall, just for the argument) then he could literally turn people into paste just by running at them. A single such bodyslam would cause irreparable damage, assuming that Galio is made of the same consistency as real world marble.

I have no proof of this, but I'm just going to assume that Galio's actually made out of some sort of super durable stone, since marble falling down from 10 stories would shatter it. Meaning that Sion could 1 hit kill Galio. Which I don't think that's what Reav3 meant. He can correct me, of course.

And amusingly, because of the whole every action has an equal and opposite reaction thing, if Sion's body had roughly the same consistency of a human body then he also would just turn to paste if he ever actually tried to run headfirst into Galio. I'm again, going to assume that Reav3 does not intend this to happen.

Really all this means is, I was under the assumption that Sion was just an awesome warrior that doesn't die. But really, he's the Hulk. At the amount of energy in his legs, and again assuming he weighs roughly the same as a overmuscled human about his size (using Hafthor Julius Bjornsson as a weight model, he's 6'9" and weighs 415, so roughly here, if Sion is 8 ft tall he should weigh around 500 lbs, I'll make it 600 just to account for the metal parts added to him). So the force to knock over a 10 story tall marble structure put into an object that is 600 lbs would send it flying. So, Sion, should be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, probably a lot more.

But this is where we start getting into things not really making sense in real world terms, so I would basically just shut off my brain and nod to whatever Riot says would happen in such a confrontation. I personally, kind of hate these kind of fantasy stories where the rules are whatever the writers happen to say at any given time, and the physics of the setting just don't make sense. But, the fact that shounen anime and Superman are so very popular proves that I am in the minority there, so, whatever. I bow out of the conversation, and, just largely find myself apathetic about the Demacia/Noxus confrontation in general.

Ralanr2 votes

Honestly it sounds like an accurate representation of what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object: they surrender.

Warlord Dienekes2 votes

Eh, if you say so. I've never personally enjoyed theoretical absolutes like "unstoppable force." I prefer numbers and calculations. I know how much energy an action would cause, how it would distribute and roughly what that would mean in real world terms. Once something becomes literally "unstoppable" it breaks reality in ways that can't really be comprehended.

When I read a story, I enjoy knowing the limitation and seeing how the characters play about within them. I know how swords and guns and fists work, so watching a struggle involving swords and guns and fists I can comprehend what the characters are doing, where the tension is, and I get to see how the characters use the limitations of the world and themselves to win.

Once you get too far beyond that, and you get things like "powering up" which always feels like a cheap cop out to me.

Lord Galvatron2 votes

The lore back then was all De-legitimized and despite being detailed it was made completely irelevent. Jax was never the strongest champ lore wise; he was the best fighter not sorcerer, not demon, not anything else.

We all miss the journal entries and the Tribunal (the lore one), but it would be foolish to believe that the new lore that they are releasing and updating is inferior in any way to the previous lore (amummu anyone?).

Warlord Dienekes2 votes

Yes I know the old lore was rewritten. But that doesn't change that the power scale of when I got invested was one way and now it is somewhere far different.

You're also confusing quality with interest. I'll agree the quality of writing has generally improved. Bilgewater was amazing for example. Not all of it has been good though. I can go on a rather large rant about why I think the Targon update is crap from a literary and pacing standpoint.

But that doesn't really matter if the reader is or isn't interested in the output.

For example I have no doubt the quality of Ulysses by James Joyce is far beyond anything Riot has ever produced. I just have no interest in reading it. I don't like Joyce's prose.

Similarly, the lore of this game has changed from being about men to being about gods. I don't care about gods as characters.

What's to keep Galio from just hero-diving the Noxian capital over and over and then hero-diving out again?

Ralanr21 votes

Magic needs to keep him awake.

Illâoi Evê Siôn8 votes

He eats magic. Can't he just eat magic in the Noxian capital?

Sharjo8 votes

Noxus doesn't have access to a lot of magic. In fact, Valoran itself's not got a lot of it.

Illâoi Evê Siôn14 votes

Yeah that always confused me. What are the sources of magic? I know of the Brackern's life essence crystals, Camille's synthetic versions of those (Hextech), Elementals (Janna), Magical Aptitude (Lux, Syndra, Taliyah), Runes (can non-mages use runes?), World Runes, the Shadow Isles (Black Mist), Ascension (what are Aspects? Aliens? Is Volibear's ascension the same as Taric's? What about the Sun Disc? Are these related?), Magical Objects (True Ice, Fizz's Trident, Riven, Sona etc. | Are these items all made with Runes?), Spirituality (Karma, Udyr), Race (Darkin, Tahm Kench, Spirits, Celestial Beings, Angels, Nami, etc.), Pacts/Blessings/Curses (Varus, Ivern), the Void (is the Void magical?), Gods/Faith (Illaoi | Is Nagakabouros magical?), the Fae (Lulu).

Why are some forces of primal energy sentient and some not? (Varus vs. Brand) Are beings like Ahri, Zyra and Nidalee magical? If so, how did they come to be if magic is so scarce? How do so many people have access to Necromancy despite having no connection to the Shadow Isles (Mordekaiser, Sion)? Also, do the space-Targonians who enslaved Aurelion Sol still exist? Do they live in the city at the top of the mountain? Did they cause Taric's ascension and if so, why? Because all the Targonians we've met are Rakkor.

SpecterVonBaren7 votes

In regards to you saying that you don't understand how all of these things are so rare despite so many champions having them, think of it like this.

Do you think every Bronze player is capable of playing like Faker? That's what you're doing when you assume that because we've seen 120 beings out of BILLIONS of living creatures on Runeterra that they are indicative of what all of the people on Runeterra are like.

Tattersall10 votes

I can't answer all of this, but I can answer some.

Ascension, like with Azir, Nasus, and Renekton, is concentrating a bit of the magical energy of the sun (or any celestial body) into the body of a mortal. It's probably more complex than that, but remember: Aurelion Sol puts a bit of himself into every star he creates, so there is a massive amount of magical energy in these things.

Now for Targon. Targon is an empire that is advanced enough that it has expanded beyond its home planet. The theory is that they have used ascension in the same way that the Shurimans did, but to a much higher degree and more efficiently. So efficiently in fact, that their magic allows them to possess (Pantheon) or half-possess/ share a mental link with (Diana, Leona, Taric) a being on another planet. These Aspects of Targon don't only exist on Runeterra, but we aren't entirely sure what their purpose is or what Targon's true agenda is.

Btw, we don't know if the Targonians originated on Runeterra or not, but I think it's more likely that they just keep tabs on every planet that has sentient life. Also, Runeterra is apparently the planet that hold the key to Sol's freedom, so Targon is paying extra attention to the goings-on there by stationing more Aspects than usual. It seems that Mt. Targon is just a place that is extra connected to the true Targon, and it serves as a portal of some kind.

Celestial beings are just the godlike creatures from the creation of the universe.

Not much is known about the Void, but I think it's a sentient being similar to Bard, but it's also its own dimension that spawns out these voidlings. The Void just wants to consume other dimensions endlessly.

Aatrox and Tahm Kench are both types of demons who represent the weaknesses of humanity.

Concerning spirits, I'm remembering this comment I made a while back talking about them. Read this.

I don't think Volibear's ascension is the same as Targonian ascension, but only because Volibear isn't cool enough. I'm not sure if I can answer anything else, sorry for the long post.

Illâoi Evê Siôn4 votes

Edit: Thanks for the answers.

League's concept of Ascension is actually really awesome. I wonder if -- with the right procedure -- you could ascend from anything that has magic or if it has to be concentrated in a non-sentient, physical body. Like, could someone ascend from Xerath? What about something small like the Northern Lights (though I imagine they'd have much less juice to offer) or a Crystal (isn't what the Brackern do essentially the opposite?)? Can a Targonian ascend from Runeterra? Can a Runeterran ascend from Runeterra?

I love it when the lore makes you ask questions without end.

Elikain2 votes

In Aurelion Sol's lore, he did comment that the dimensional fissure that he was tasked to close was odd, in a peculiar way. It's like someone from the other side (who possibly opened it), possessed inconceivable amount of power and know-how (IQ) to shred the dimensional walls, which was unimaginable for mere mortals.

I sense the Voidborn perversions of life tunneling through reality’s firmament, sending tides of unseen energy coursing through the aether. They shred the veil that separates nothingness and form with their unwelcome passage.

...Smoldering husks rain from the sky. I’m a little surprised they aren’t wholly disintegrated, but then again, the Voidborn don’t know how things work in this universe.

A pulsing sickness lingers in the air. From the epicenter of the corruption, I feel a will… hungry and indomitable, and far from the typical mindlessness I’m accustomed to from these Voidborn aberrations. The pulsating wound on reality yawns and buckles, distorting and warping all it touches. Whatever exists on the other side is laughing.

_Pantheon shouts another command at me, but I ignore her words. This anomalous fissure in the universe entrances me. This is not the first of its kind I’ve had to deal with, but this one feels different, and I can’t help but admire the marvelously terrifying manipulation of the barriers between realms. Few beings could fathom its complexities, let alone possess the sheer magnitude of power needed to rend the fabric of existence. In my heart, I know a wound so exquisite could never be orchestrated by scuttling creatures. No. There must be more behind this intrusion. I shudder at the thought of what kind of entity is capable of inducing such a volatile rift. _

...I enjoy what I do next, partly because they’ll remember it, partly because it feels good to let a little of the old power loose, but mostly because I wish to remind whatever intelligence that controls this Void incursion that nobody laughs at me in my plane of existence.

#Can't wait for the equivalently powerful Void champion that can stand toe to toe with Aurelion Sol. :D

No. That's Malphite Ultimate into a Braum shield.

A giant mountain into a manly man holding a shield.

kasfas12 votes

No. No No, no no, NO! Sion is not so weak that his ULTIMATE would simply **TOPPLE ** this stone Goliath. Sion would Simply smash through the entire limb if he got the chance. The issue is no-one (Swain) has let him actually fight for about a hundred years or whatever it is. Sion is strong, Sion is WAR.

Sion isn't the unstoppable force, He has transcended traditional explanations of strength. Having been brought back from the brink of oblivion, nothing_** AND I MEAN NOTHING**_ can kill him. Nothing can stop him, nothing. If brought to his true potential, sion could be considered an object with both infinite mass and speed, therefore both being immovable and unstoppable, existing everywhere at once. (https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTrI0rVL1yOIgm1ZukGphosvQRdkmEzrL1HdPOS1XKSH2HdMxM )
