Colour change proposal for Fiora

Hi everyone,

I'm super excited about the Fiora rework; they've really paid attention to the criticism players had about her not representing the gameplay pattern of a Grand Duelist (mobility, riposte reinvention) and as someone who has mastered Fiora in ranked play I can't wait to try her out. I do believe however that visually, the reworked Fiora's textures looks a bit too flamboyant - her suit is a mismatch of gold, teal, and rose - and it all clashes far too much.

I did a very quick re-do in photoshop to illustrate what I mean.

Demacia is defined by a white-gold-blue/black palette, which you can see on most of the factions' champions. Lucian, J4, Lux, Garen all share similar colours. Compared to other Demacian's outfits Fiora's costume stands out, making her look a bit more like a court jester than a noble duelist.

I felt like the sharper colours found in her old outfit suited her so much more. If you look at Lucian's art (which is a very close approximation of his in-game look) he has a more black/white pattern, with splashes of gold and rose - she should too!

Edit: Maybe I'm crazy, but isn't her splashart also featuring black as the colour of her leggings? Why is the in-game model so different?

UPDATE #2: Since there's some confusion over how this would look in game, I did another quick paint job on her in the rift to show how it would look. You can definitely see that she sports the teal colours in game as well, and how dark/grey would suit her.

It looks like the exact same colors, just one is under a slightly foggy sheet of glass.

Most of her is the same - I didn't touch the white or gold since I think those are Demacian stapples - what I updated was the leggings, which were teal before, and made them black instead to bring out the pink detail of her hair and cape.

That's exactly the point. Sharpening the contrast removes the "300-year-old faded tapestry" look.

SO much better. Riot please notice this...

I definitely like the black pants instead of blue. Fits perfectly with her hair! Upvoted for sure. Definitely have my own issues with her models and splash arts

Your colours pretty much looks to be what she has in-game. That piece of art is a little bit pale, 'tis all.

Hey Solideus, I've actually just done a quick paint-over her in-game model in the rift to show the difference. She definitely has a lot of teal in there that looks (in my opinion) better in black. You can check it out in the OP! :)

I think not using black is a legitimately defensible change. She's much more easily spottet with the colour; blacks and greys makes her silhouette weaker and she doesn't pops as well against the background. You couldn't really go darker than your paintover without loosing readability, but grays still make her a much less vibrant character. You could use blacks and greys in a character, but you'd have to be strategic about it, and I don't think Fiora is the right character for it.

That's interesting, I personally think her in-game read is the huge flowing white cape behind her, along with her sword. Since they've accentuated the shoulder pads as well, I find that Fiora will be easily distinguishable from her top-heavy detailing. I think this especially holds true when you look at Nightraven Fiora and see that she's entirely black except for her cape, which is a bright blood red. This essentially drove my instinct to propose a texture colour change, since it wouldn't impact gameplay, carry thematic consistency for Demacia, and also pay homage to Fiora's classic look.

She looks amazing in that image, she has a smooth face, lacks the cheeky smug smile but otherwise it's good So why is her splash and in-game model so damn edgy? specially the cheekbones and chin

That is actually the same face, but in better lighting. The chin and cheekbones and what not are slightly shiny on the ingame model as well, which is what people are mostly angry about. So yeah, face problem explained.

excuse me? both the model and splash have a knife in place of the chin! The image above does not, it has a small and smooth chin

It still juts out and is the same as her splash, but the lighting is better and scale is smaller so you won't notice it.

Dude I won't photoshop a comparison now but in this you clearly see the chin goes down while on the splash and model it goes forward

I liked the deeper colors, but Demacian colors are gold and blue, and this just replaced blue with black. A slightly deeper shade would have been nice instead of black imo.

My reasoning was that Lucian has a white/gold/black/rose scheme in his costume, and is also Demacian. Black is also worn by J4, but dark blue is also worn by Garen & Lux so it would make sense if Fiora wore that colour as well. Nevertheless, the point remains that the current teal seems really out of place.

Lucian isn't really representing Demacia when he fights so he doesn't really wear colors as demacian as ever. I do get your point, but I prefer the blue over black :3.

Edit: Either way the edit is a lot better than the original.

This is really well done. The colors you propose look a lot better. Some say her face is weird, and maybe it is, but I don't think its an issue. Makes her look more french I guess. But dear god her walk cycle -.- Who designed that? I am not a fan of Fiora's new visuals (mainly the colors are so weird), however her new gameplay is fantastic. She now feels like a fencer, where striking your opponent from the right angle is really important. The changes to her e give her a bit more utility but feels a bit less responsive (maybe return the movespeed increase somehow?). Q is now a "skillshot", where you target the direction but not exactly who it strikes, however I have yet to have an issue with its AI. The ult again feels . . . unresponsive, but maybe I'm just not used to it. Again I feel like the burst of movement speed upon striking a vital could be faster.
