Yo Riot, you're kinda overstuffing League with robot skins.

Now, disclaimer, I love Robots. Transformers, Power Ranger Megazords, Pacific Rim, Gurren Lagann, I really run the gamut of all the robots I love and think are awesome.

However, I think League's starting to overflow with robotic skins in recent time. We have:

  • Mecha.
  • Project (Not TECHNICALLY robots but the aesthetic is very similar)
  • Battlecast
  • Full Metal
  • Hextech
  • Steel Legion/Bioforge
  • Program
  • Miscellaneous other skin ideas that are one-off-robotic-style-stuff.

In a way, I do understand this. League is a primarily fantasy setting. It's easier to take 60 fantasy champs and make them futuristic robots than it is to take 10 technological champions and make them fantastical. I do really feel that this can be done though. You guys really nailed it with Master Arcanist Ziggs, why not have a whole fantasy line of technology champions reimagined as fantasy? As some quick examples: Paladin Jayce, Berserker Vi, Warlock Heimerdinger, Ranger Caitlyn, Chaos Mage Jinx, Shaman Viktor, etc.

Does anyone else feel there's a bit of robotic oversaturation with robots or am I in the minority? Again: Not saying these are BAD skins (I love Mecha Sion and own a ton of robot skins) but it feels like robots are the in-thing. Sorta like how "Make it a fire skin" was the in-thing back in like S2

Wait until they roll out Project Rift. On a serious note, I'm ok with it. These skins are slowly forming some kind of their own Runeterra 2.0 lore.

Demon Vi fits here, no? But I do like the idea of re-imagining more technological champs as fantastical. Elderwood Blitzcrank perhaps?

I actually agree. I love the robot skins (practically quivering with excitement over Program Lissandra and Program Soraka), but there seems to be a lot of them coming out fairly close together. I would like to see more things along a similar vein to Ironsides Malphite where the tech takes a notable downgrade.

Kinda like how during the Shurima event we got an influx of sand skins.

Valor Bot3/23/2016, 5:47:27 AM2 votes

Also, Nunu Bot.

But yeah, I agree that there are way more robot-themed skins than any other particular thematic in League of Legends, which narrows our choices for cosmetics a bit.

Steel legion is a reference to Warhammer 40k i believe or starcraft not too sure. Bioforge... was just a failure. Full metal is not a mecha and was a fan made skin i believe.

Hextech is lore related.

Full metal pantheon isn't very robotic either, he just has a more metal suit x)

Gotodead3/23/2016, 3:54:15 PM2 votes

not enough funny skins, they used to get released more but now the majority are serious. So we have to wait for events like april fools and then the champs they gave skins too are all really niche and not even that great. so now we wait a billion years for the next funny skin batch and pray...

Mecha/project skins sell REALLY well. Mecha Kha is like, in the top three for most popular skins I think, project Yas is up there too. Demand is high, so to speak, and Riot will respond to that.

Everyone in a match will have robot skins except Blitzcrank . And he will have the Definitely not Blitzcrank Skin. I like it

I see where you're coming from, but come on. It's 2016; Soraka DESERVES a heal bot skin.

Blood Magicks3/23/2016, 3:55:27 PM1 votes

I feel like the robot-y mech-y futuristic skins are the iPhones of LoL skins. Shiny, flashy and high-tech looking, almost always expensive, but in almost all cases with no original thought put into them.

I am much more a fan of simple, yet brilliant skins like Monarch Kog and Definitely not Blitz.

Kudos for the new Sion skin though, it really captures his spirit.

The thing is that most champs in the game are more based on fantasy than sci-fi,so there are more options to give a fantasy-themed champ a sci-fi skin than the other way around.

Besides we also got demon VI and dragon trainer tristana at the end of the last year and Lunar wraith Caitlyn at the beginning of this one ;). Cosmic reaver kassadin might also count to a certain degree since he drops the technological helmet
