Jarvan has the potential to be a really cool and interesting character. He's the next ruler for his nation, and he has fresh ideas he wants to bring in to heavily change the old, creaking tradition that is Demacia. He willingly saved and recruited a dragon half-blood as a personal guard and friend, and is a lead-from-the-front kinda guy.

The problem is that I just summed up the entirety of his character for you with those three sentences, and I'm pretty sure I read too much into him. There's little about him as a person to latch onto; he likes to fight, okay, so does pretty much every champion in this game that isn't Ivern. When you read his lore, you may notice that none of it is about him personally. It's about Garen's rescue attempt and Shyvana. ESPECIALLY Shyvana. (the fact that she takes up half of his lore with her own is half the reason I ship it!)

I don't dislike Jarvan by any means but he's not a great character.

Eh, not particularly.

It's telling that in the updates for his own kingdom, he got pretty overshadowed by Lux and Garen with the mass lore update. I mean, even his lore reads more like him going on about how cool Shyvana is rather than anything particularly interesting he has accomplished.

Still, I don't dislike him. I just tend to forget he exists unless I'm actively playing against him.

J4's interesting factors are how accepting he is of capable people despite their standing in a kingdom like Demacia (Quinn and Shyvana) which can be seen as somewhat Noxian.

This however I feel could be expanded more because so far all we got was a tale about how he grew to be more responsible in turning a whole town to kill a dragon after getting captured during a reckless action.

In the future I hope we see more of his political side of things as there is more to running a kingdom than leading an army.

I think he is due for the comic treatment as it would do wonders for his personality and shine some light on his true authority as heir to the throne. The other interesting thing about him is that his men follow him because he is willing to fight and die beside them in the front and that he is at his core a fearless individual. But the main draw with him is the relationship he has with Shyvana and how that changes up the dynamic, also i would mind some funny banter between the two. Jarvan-Your sword arm could use some work. Shyvana-Yours could too but i think you know to what arm im talking about ;)

Also if it isnt obvious at this point i am a JarvanXShyvana shipper

Yeah Jarvan is pretty boring. His lore was tied way too closely to Shyvana's or vice-versa. It was HIS BIOGRAPHYYYY. It shouuld have been a side story.

I don't think we've ever really gotten a good sense of his personality, to be honest. His in-game voice over makes him out to be quite arrogant, always looking for a bigger and greater foe, whereas his new lore focuses more on his compassion towards Shyvana. I don't really know where he stands politically or what his personality is like besides a few minor details. We need more info on how he feels about the current state of Demacia and what makes him unique from the rest of the Demacian cast (aside from being prince).

He is one of few demacians I like.

He could use an animation update. His ult just looks like he wanted to play hopscotch with that tiny jump.

He really needs more expansion on his lore. But his power fantasy is something that has lots of potential. The mudder frigging king, with so many really powerful followers and subjects. There just needs to be more of his more down to earth aspects revealed. Like what he does when he isn't fighting or more of his interactions with other people.

Hell yea I find j4 potentially super interesting. Is he? Not really.

He doesn't bother because noone is able to provide him with a decent challenge

The problem with Jarvan is he is just under developed in the current lore. He doesn't really have a character that shines out from the rest of the cast and as a character, a person, he just exists in a world of far more interesting and dense characters. When you got characters like Zed, Tayliah, Nami, Camille, Lux, Azir, Ivern, Kled, Miss Fortune, and so many more who all have a certain personality and just carry an air around them, Jarvan just kind of lacks. He really needs an update I feel.

The thing about Jarvan is I just don't find him to be an interesting character, even more so since his lore update. I mean as people pointed out already, he has the potential to be an interesting character with a different view for how his country should be and being a lead-in-front guy. But outside of that there really is nothing else about him.

His old lore at least gave some character to him as to what his journey put him through. In fact Necrit even said he has similar themes to Arthas, someone who had gone through something similar of that nature, except this time Jarvan was still relatively the same or so everyone thought. Meanwhile in the new lore it only tells about how he was captured, from the news in Garen's story, and then just repeats the end of Shyvana's story but from his perspective. There wasn't anything new to him. He basically is a blank slate right now that can have something really cool happen but nothing at the moment.

Lorewise I don't really hate him, since there really isn't anything there now, but I will comment in saying I hate his voice. Idk if it's the tone, the delivery or just all of it in general, I just hate the way he sounds, especially now with his current lore where he's suppose to feel more commanding and showing compassion towards others. His voice now just makes him rub off to me as an arrogant jerk.

In short: Outside of his voice, I really don't have a problem with him but I don't think he's that interesting of a character either at the moment.
