The Thematic of Garen's Ult

I dunno, on the one hand, his ult is very satisfying, and fits the character well in terms of gameplay, synergy, and personality, but having it be a super extreme magic attack seems weird.

I think before the lore update, it was weird that it didn't scale with AP, but now that we know about Garen's distaste for magic it makes perfect sense why he won't buy mage items, so that fits really well at least.

But a super magical execute seems like something Garen wouldn't use now, but I also don't want it to go away.

I imagine that his ult is either noncanon or that it is actually going to be an important plot point for Garens story. After all it would be interesting to see Garen turning out to be able to use magic himself and how he'd deal with that kind of stuff.

I believe a year ago the lore guys said that the game and the story have become pretty blatantly separated. Malphite is the size of the entire rift, Sol would not be able to be hurt by the majority of the champions, and Garen's ult is just a gameplay construct that has no baring on the actual character.

Personally I'm not really a fan of that decision, even if I understand why they did it.

I always thought that Garen's ultimate wasn't actually a sword falling from out of the sky in the actual universe. I thought that it was instead just an ultra-powerful strike fueled by justice, kinda just a normal finishing blow.

I thought that Garen's giant sword was either for gameplay clarity or it was added as a metaphor for a superpowered hit.

A similar example is Jarvan's Cataclysm. It's not magic that's caused the rock around him to shoot up, it's just a really powerful attack.

It makes zero sense with Demacias all of a sudden "antimagic stance". For years Garens ult has literally been summoning a hugeass sword out of the sky!?

The better thing to do would be to change Demacias lore to where theyre a bit more open to magic, but still wary and careful with using it.

Just look at this issue that way: Garen, just like Lux have tendencies to magic. But unlike her he did't train himself to use magic, didn't have teachers. So his magic just kinda frees at the time of stress. I think his Ult is not something he uses very frequently in lore. He use it as super last-second move. Moreover, I think. he does not even realise that he uses magic. I think he just shouts Demacia and hopes for the best

I think it was said to see it less as "Magic" and more as "anti-magic" Like, it absorbs the magic around it and destroys it all.

Or something along those lines
