The demons of Runaterra Theory

Now we have the second demon of league of legends with the Evelynn rework, alongside with TahmKench. Riot also confirmed that Nocturne and Shaco are demons too. Someone on the forums suggested that the demons resemble the seven deadly sins, and i think its a great idea. So it got me thinking on which one of the sins could they resemble, and who could be the other non-confirmed demons. TahmKench He resembles gluttony, and i dont think it needs further explanation on why. He makes deals with humans and than levy huge prices. Evelynn She resembles lust, and i think her quotes to item 3135 kinda explain why. Also look at or listen to her. She tortures humans and feed on their fear and pain.

Keep in mind that the next two are really outdated both visually and gameplay/lore vise. So they might only fulfill their connection with the seven sins trough a VGU. However i still tried to make some ideas. Nocturne In his current lore his supposed to be this nightmare creature, but unfortunately theres no sin inconnection with dreams or nighmares. My idea is that he could resemble greed in way that he greeds for the dreams of people and feeds off them. Or he could even be wrath, beacuse for some reason he really got upset on humanity so he kills people on their dreams brutally, out of vengeance. But we will see if he gets a VGU. Shaco Someone here on the forums suggested that he could be pride, since he doesnt really take anything or anyone seriously. Beacuse his a clown who fights with jack in the boxes. I think this idea could work. I could also imagine him as envy, beacuse he could be envious at people for thier personalities or lifes, so he would steal them for himself, apperaing as that person until his next "prey". And once he could have stolen the character of a humorous clown, but his stealing magic could have malfunctioned and now his stuck with this body for ever. Obviously both of theese would need a VGU to visualise them in game.

In my opinion the champions that could also beacome one of the demons with a lore/VG Update are: AmumuSad forever, so he takes away other peoples happiness beacuse of envy or wrath. Fiddlesticks Kinda the same reason on why do i think Nocturne should be greed, but instead of dreams he would feed off peoples fear. Jax His jsut so mysterious, and with a VGU he could literally end up as any of the remaining sins. However i really think his current lore with the void is really cool, so it might be better if it didnt change. Kayle She could be a powerful and Prideful angel, and to contrastMorgana she could be wrath as an arcangel, or envious at her sisters powers. Could even sloth, as an angel who doesnt like to do things the way shes supposed to do them, namely the oppoiste of her hardworking and honorable sister. Zyra I just feel like she could fit with the demon theme, dont really have any ideas why, outside of greed for water, cuz shes a plant :p .

Hope you liked the post, would be pleased with some feedback.

Some red posts have explained that demons need to fulfill some kind of requirement before they can kill a human. This is why they are representative of a sin, not because of their own desires or appearance (although that plays into it as well). Tahm Kench can only eat you if you've given in to his deal, thus given into your greed. Presumably Evelynn functions similarly; those that give in to their lust for her, she torments and destroys for her own lust. By giving into that sin, you become a victim of the sin itself. I think this distinction is important, because it makes the demons more interesting and complicated than just "they are wrathful, they are greedy" etc.

So a demon of Wrath, for example, would require a human that somehow lets Wrath overtake them. Nocturne might be wrathful, but in order for him to represent "Wrath", he'd need to have the requirement that his victim somehow give themselves over to their wrath before he can even touch them. Not saying Nocturne can't be that, but some lore tweaks are needed before he meets this idea.

This is also why I struggle to place Shaco into any specific sin, because he doesn't really lend himself easily to any single sin. What about a crazed clown killer would induce people to be Prideful? Or Sloth? Or Envious? I'm not sure any sin necessarily fits him, which is why I'm wondering if demons simply prey on people with a specific major character flaw, and so far we've gotten demons that just happen to represent traditional Christian sins.

For Jax, if they made him into a demon (not sure if that's the best direction for him, but I'm open to possibilities), I think Pride would fit him best. The guy is so sure of himself he doesn't even use real weapons, opting for a lamp post and in some skins things like a fishing pole. Someone else who was that prideful could challenge Jax to a duel (lending to his gameplay identity of being a good duelist) and ultimately lose because he's Jax. That's how he gets victims of Pride: they challenge him to protect their own Pride and ultimately fail, meeting Jax's requirement.

I really don't think they're going for the seven deadly sins. Shaco, Nocturne and Fiddle would have to change quite a bit to fit into that theme. I'm okay with change in a VGU as its to be expected, but that would be extremely excessive I think.

jax is a warrior from an otherwise extinct race if im not mistaken, hes not evil or a demon just a badass that likes to smack people with a stick cuz hes good at it.

While i can see the points you bring up and that the Demons of Runeterra could resemble the seven deadly sins, it doesn't add up when we take shaco into the Picture. Pride is a creature of mockery, of disgust for what he deems beneath. Pride should represent arrogance, not hubris. Similar case with nocturne. While i can see how Wrath would add up to his current style of character, it yet again also does not.

I personally think the Demons represent the Humans Desires and the Fears that come with them.

Quick Note, the ideas written are more or less symbolic, meaning they are not 100% true to their lore, taken word by word, but just Overall add up to the character itself:

TahmKench Represents Desperation and the following Dissapointment. He offers deals that in the end lead to nothing more than despair. His success is a fool's failure, leaving his victim's unfullfilled.

Evelynn Resembles Love and the following Agony. She seduces her Targets to then torture them endlessly until they die, leaving their deaths to be ones of heartbreak.

Nocturne Represents Ambition and the following Wrath. He feasts on dreams and nightmares, and ambitious people dream big, whereas people who lose their dreams Fall ill to vengeance. (It would be a lot more Logical if nocturne would actually leave some survivors)

Shaco Represents Joy and the following Madness. he mirrors everything that you could consider "Overstepping the lines" Of Humor. He finds Things funny, just that he finds those Things funny that require you to reach beyond sanity to understand them.

Having said that, there could be room for quite a lot of demons. Peace/Neverrest, Happyiness/Despair (Amumu could fit this one pretty damn well if he were to be reclassified as a demon), Greed/Lost and Purity/Corruption would be just some ideas to list.

Thought i do agree you got a strong point, i myself believe that there is either something missing or it is something else after all.

Good post thoe, giving it my thumbs up. And i hope riot will give answers to that someday in the future.
