Besides that, I think it works.
This. I'd rather have one crucial detail missing than deal with the horrible, unfinished mess that the "new lore" is. We still have a ridiculous number of champions tied to the League of Legends and Institute of War; Riot seems incapable of coming up with non-League lore without writing more slowly than George R. R. Martin.

Has never actually READ the old lore
Champions that are in the Institute of War are there for their own gain and fame as they become important deciding factors in politics.
Ever wish you could beat an asshole that disagrees with you about a political issue up, this is EXACTLY what they are doing. (GP, Zed, Karma etc.)
Others are of course captured and given the choice of life and death, they tend to choose the first. (Brand, Xerath, Kog'Maw, Kha'Zix)
Others such as Cho'Gath are simply there to see the world burn, and to plant sinister plots that will be the worlds undoing (Karthus, Mordekaiser, Hecarim)
And lastly we have those seeking to prove their worth against the strongest champions in the world ( Jax, Wu, Yi etc. )
Right now we only have a empty shell with shitty and inconsistent background stories.

- For maximum excitement
- Found X Champ, followed them to the League, got signed on (for this case, maybe Rengar)
- Must claim her vengeance against the High Chancellor of the Institute of War, but is corralled to join the League to do so.
Anybody else I'm missing?
