Likely see one more this year I'd say along with the Evelynn update.

One for sure, maybe two but I doubt it. I think the next one will be a midlaner since we got a botlane (Rakan and Xayah), a jungler (Kayn) and a toplaner (Ornn), I play him jungler, since you really can keep farming and pressure because you don't have to back at base if you manage your camps correctly ! So the enxt one should be a midlaner !

Last year there was one in august then October and December. I expect the same schedule.

no , October is quite full with mini Reworks, Evelynn is a bit delayed so no room until December

Evelynn and the minireworks are done by differen teams though. Not to mention that Eve will likely come out at the end of september/beginning of october,which would mean that october is still a possibility(after all we also got Kayn and Urgot both in july)

y, but meddler confirmed that Xin will be in 7.19 and I don't think they will ship all mini reworks and Eve in 1 patch when they also have 7.20 and 7.21. So the order will be Xin in 7.19 and Eve in 7.20 or 7.21. 7.20 is more likely and about the progess, I did a big post about the roster of last year, it was right, but things like Xayah/Rakan , evelynn is not in the typical roster and the team is focused on quality that means they did for this year 5c hamps and 4 vgus and next year they plan to reach 50/50

Even then Eve would be in early october and that means that another champ could be released in october as well(like I already mentioned,Kayn and Urgot came out in the same month) or november if the champ takes a bit more time. If we only get 5 champs,then thats because the Kayn team doesn't manage to release their champ in december(which makes sense since Kayn came out in july,so their champ will likely be released in january),but the Xayah team would still release their champ in october or november.

I mean lets take a look at the teams recent releases: Team Illaoi :Made Taliyah,Camille and Kayn Team Jhin :Made Kled,Xayah&Rakan and Ornn Team AurelionSol :Made Ivern,Xayah&Rakan Team Ryze :Made Warwick and Urgot(now works on Swain) Team Yorick :Made Galio(now works on Eve)

From that we can see that each team gives us ~1 release every 6 months. The big exception here are Team Jhin not releasing anything during febuary because of the dual release of Xayah&Rakan,though it was said that one team stopped working on Xayah&Rakan around febuary,which fits the schedule. Aside from that the only ones who took longer than 6 months are Camille and Kayn who both took ~7months,which is understandable,as they likely didn't want to release Camille in the preseason and there was the winter break shortly after her release(and Kayn has 3 models,so he likely took a bit longer anyway).

Going by that it is pretty easy to see that the next champ of Team Aurelion is likely going to be released in october or november,as their previous project was released in april. Meanwhile there is a good chance that the champ of Team Illaoi will come out before the next rework of Team Ryze.since Kayn came out before Urgot.

There's seems to be some confusion over the 60/40 thing so let me clear it up a bit.

When I say 60/40 or 50/50 I'm not saying 6 new champs a year and 4 VGUs a year as we don't really try to get a certain amount of champions done a year. When I give those ratios I'm referring to the amount of resources dedicated to new champs vs VGUs.

To add some more context we have 5 teams that can make either a VGU or a New Champ. Each team has one project in full production and 1 project in Ideation/discovery. This means that at any given time there is 10 champions in some stage of development.

In the past, 3 of the teams only made new champs and the other 2 only did VGUs which led to our total resources being 60/40 in favor of New Champs. Now we have it set up so that any team can do either a VGU or a new champ. Currently we have 5 new champs and 5 VGUs in various stages of development, so our allocation is 50/50 at the moment.

What specific time in a year or what percentage of these land in a given calendar year is unpredictable as we are more concerned with shipping something when it's ready rather than shipping a certain amount of champions in a year.

and another Rioter ( sry I don't know who wrote it) said: the order will be xin<eve< new champ< swain and swain is confirmed for next year

this post was posted after someone think that there will be 6champs and 4 Vgus, reav3 mentioned that they are going to swap to a 50/50, so they go slighty down with new champs, it also based on the idea, when they had last time good ideas and good work for 6 champs, it is fine, if it isn't there will be 5, fine too. Novebmer is also a very bad date to release something big, there was never a champ that got released in the mid-season/ pre-season month, becasue it is hard t obalance ( this pre-season we have many new clinet features, new rune system ( 50 potentional op runes) all champs need base stats , items and all other stuff needs to watch. Doing the focus on December for a new champ is fine, 1 they try to reach 1 big release every motnh and they have much more time to do better work( cool ideas , better VFX/SFX, lore, balance and so on)

You know you said the exact same thing already in another reply to one of my posts...

Anyway,like I said,Reav3s comment does not mean that there can't be a new champ between Swain and the other new champ,it just means that they can't say for sure that this will be the case. Which makes sense since the teams who worked on Kayn and Urgot both released their stuff in july,so if the Kayn teams next project(I think they said already that it is a new champ) takes a bit longer than usual,then Swain could come out before this new champ.But if the Kayn team is a bit faster or the swain team is slower,then their next project could come out in time. Reav3 simply can't look into the future and know how the development of these projects is going to get along.

And like I already said:the next champ is likely going to be released in october(even if Eve is also released in October),as the team who worked on him/her is the same one that did Xayah and Rakan. Then its easily possible that we'd get the preseason patch in november and another champ in december.

Novebmer is also a very bad date to release something big, there was never a champ that got released in the mid-season/ pre-season month, becasue it is hard t obalance

ahem.... Illaoi was released one patch after the preseason update....

There have been 6 a year in recent years. We've had 4 this year, but there was the Xayah and Rakan double release, so we might get 7.

Xayah and Rakan were to 2 champs so they release both in April but so they didn't a Champ in February

Possibly 2? We know there's going to be one more in between the next two VGUs, I suppose there could be another after.

1-2. We have 5 teams who do either champions or reworks and they usually produce one every 6 months. Ornn was done by one of the teams who did Xayah and Rakan,the other team who did this will likely release their next champ in october. The team who worked on Kayn will probably release their next project either this december or next january.
