Lets talk about their possible new game reveal in anniversary (theories)

Ey, I rarely post in this subforum but I'm really hyped for these kind of things, specially with the fantastic lore they have already in league.

I'm gonna discuss a few points i was thinking about, some might be a bit less serious than others, I make this post so everyone can share their opinion about what they think the game or games will be and how they will approach them. This is a post for theories, opinions and a place to discuss about for someone who wants to do it.

So** my first theory** about the game is that the game will most likely feature a** Story Mode**, it might not be its main mode, or it might be, we dont know, but we know they are REALLY GOOD telling stories and managing them, I think its the strongest point by far of Riot and its the only thing we dont complain about and instead we complement them!

They listen to us in some sort of way, they decide what they do but they know we want a story mode, they also seem to enjoy a lot working on runaterra's lore which makes even more sense, they also read and reply to many posts about lore, way more than any other topics.

This means for me that they will feature a Story Mode as a main or almost main mode. I hope the first though.

Okay, that was the first theory.

Now, about game genres, what they might go for and what they might not go for. They once asked if we would like to see a MMORPG in this tweet: Tryndamere asking if we want an MMO

However they did also tell us multiple times that Tryndamere were just being playful with us and it didnt mean anything, which doesnt mean that they wont make an MMO, this is probably because they were too early in development and they didnt decide anything yet.

They also shared with us there was not a **League **MMO in development, which doesnt mean that there is not a **Runaterra **MMO in development

However that was in 2018 and they probably are even more motivated after Teamfight Tactics was received that well. ** So the things I think their game's genre will be riged of are:**

  • They should be able to continue adding content
  • It needs to fit their current way of making games
  • It has to feature story
  • It has to feature some sort of social / online interaction
  • It has to feature some sort of microtransactions

Games that do that usually enter the MMO genre, Battleroyales nowadays too, but genres like a "3d Metroidvania", open single player worlds like Skyrim, fighting games shouldnt fit there.

I know they wanted to make a fighting game but that might not be the main second game, or maybe they make a new genre in some way using fight, maybe instead of a fighting game its a hack and slash.

The thing is, it has to feature all the things above to make it work for them. And I'm sorry but I can only think of MMOs, if you have any other idea write it in the comments.

Now, my third theory is about their working progress. We know some rioters moved from league to something else not related to league, and they also removed some aspects of League because they couldnt take care of them with the amount of time they have, why the hurry? Why not enough time with such a big company?

Well, its clear for me, they have been not only working on league and not only in tft, lets see...

  • They work on the runattera's universe, why that much? Because apart that we and they like it so much, it might be a big part of their second game.
  • They work on TFT, and you might like or not but that is a whole game in itself and requires a lot of time and thinking to properly update it, specially with the amount of people that got into TFT.
  • They are working on reworks, new champions and preseason, which of course take a LOT of time
  • They are working on events for the near future, things like new skinlines, new kind of rewards, new gamemode changes or even new game modes...
  • They are working on real events for also the near future, they have to share with us their thoughts on preseason, champion dev, tft dev, anniversary events, etc...

And I'm probably missing a few points, they actually dont have enough time, they have a huge amount of resources, that plus their new game or games developing and they have to cut of something aka 3v3 and gamemode rotations (because they moved to something more important aka game development).

Why? Because they knew it was 10th anniversary and what would be the best place to announce a second game finally? So thats why I think they are gonna show off their second or more than one game in their 10th anniversary.

So by this time they might be finishing alpha and close to beta, I dont think they are in beta because they are clearly using a lot of resources to work on it fast enough, what we might see will be a near incomplete interface, probably a lot more empty that it should be environment, lack of characters or even prototype art, however, we will see a new game, this is just a theory, they can come up with a decent art or something, but I think the game itself is more important than the art at this point of development.

So in summary, they might be working on an online game that features story, microtransactions and is based of runaterra, it might feature open world or expandable content and they are close to beta which means we might see it in 10th aniversary.

Last thing I wanna talk about are their microtransactions, we dont know 100% if the game will have a fee, a subscription model or microtransactions, I personally hope its some kind of free to play with microtransactions because otherwise me and many people wont be able to afford it, (I cant play FFXIV because of that), however my second concern is... if it features pvp, will their microtransactions be Pay to Win? I hope they are just cosmetic.

Thats all I have to say, long post! Now, this is my opinion and only my opinion, I based the whole post on what I know, I might have missed in something but this is not an objective post.

Now, As I said earlier in the post, If you have something you want to share write in the comments, I will be reading your theories or ideas about their lore, game, maybe mechanics, genre, when it will come out etc!

Say hello to Runaterra soon! We might be able to literally step in! [slayer-jinx-catface]

It's a fighting game; such was confirmed at Evo 2019 this year. I just hope it'll be "CertainlyT: the fighting game" AKA Guilty Gear, except with League of Legends characters. I don't think any other system can really do justice to so many of the high-mobility champs in the game.

Forget about a fighting game or an MMO, what we REALLY need is a sequel to the greatest game created by Riot:

CHO'GATH EATS THE WORLD!

Tbh, I don't think that it'll be an MMO, simply because that market is in an extremely unstable situation right now.

Honestly I'd say that if they want the game to have a storymode, then a strategygame might be the best choice. It could easily reuse a lot of models from the main game and give us more details about the different factions.

If they don't want a specific story, but are adamant about adding more lore, then a card-game might be a good idea, since that could easily feature some flavor text for the different cards, adding to the game world.

Didn't they they hire a group of developers that were in the middle of making a fighting game? If so, I think it will be some sort of action game. Whether it be a traditional fighting game, more unique fighting game, or maybe something like dynasty warriors/samurai warriors type game but with more focus multiplayer and strategy.

Let's not forget about the leaked mobile game they have which is basically a league port on mobile

I really doubt that Riot is working on an MMO. Not that I don't want one it's just not a great business decision and developing two massive live service games will reaally stretch them thin considering they can barely maintain League depending on who you ask. There is also just a much larger margin for error with an MMO. It can't just be economically viable, If it doesn't EXPLODE it's going to be considered a failure because of the level of upkeep and content a live-service MMO needs to stay afloat and because Riot is also running an MOBA with 8 million peak concurrent daily players, so of course they are going to want parity between the two.

It's just not gonna happen. What's much more likely is for Riot to develop smaller games OR to start publishing more like they are with that fighting game they acquired.

For my theory though. We are gonna find out what Legends of Runeterra is (I feel like its' a TCG), Rito is going to announce League Mobile Version which will be met with deafening boos as millions throw popcorn at the screen which should be funny and then they'll talk about TFT and some Esports stuff which I will happily snore through. HOPEFULLY at the end they unveil the new champ.

If they wanna make a story based game, then they can divide these champions by region when queue for game match, so you won't have demacian champions and noxian champions in the same team.
