A couple things with Yordles Lore needs to be addressed regarding what they are.

Earlier this year Riot updated Yordles lore. Saying that they are spirits that take on various shapes given enough time in a certain environment etc. This lore change feels too much like the Vastaya who already do vary greatly.

The reason this might annoy fans of the Yordles in the future is because when Riot finally does come out with a new Yordle. Is it even going to be what we think of as a Yordle? Teemo, Kled, Poppy, Tristana, Or is it going to be some random small animal like creature.

I think Variety in the Yordles is good but getting too wild with their physical race isn't faithful to the community that appreciates them. The Glamour and Physical changes should be toned back a little.

I think it would be cool if Yordles' were just ordinary mammalian bipeds in ancient times that ascended to the Spirit Realm.

There's a sort of MASSIVE plot hole in Gnar who evolved into modern day Yordles, but why would a spiritual being iterate biologically over several generations when they can just change on a dime with spirit magic like Glamour or whatnot?

It would be cool if Gnar represented that "grassroots" Yordle of before, but then at some point the Yordles found Bandle City which has occupied different races before them and then they "ascended" (I know that's a celstial concept maybe "crossed over" is a better way to describe it) into spiritual beings.

I would argue that no, the updated lore of the yordles doesnt say that, it HINTS that idea... but there is no 100% confirmation about it (Even if it is obvious).

The only thing that the update did was to say that yordles use portals, that is it.

Yordles are like.... Empathic fairies.

Unlike the Vastaya they change to reflect the cultures they're close to.

I don't know what physical changes you mean. And the glamour is a recent development in lore.
