@Riot: Where are the Other Darkin?

Aatrox, he is all about war. War this, war that, war makes his sword ROCK hard... but what are the other Darkin?

Are they an allegory to the Horsemen of the Apocalypse? With War, Famine, and Pestilence being the first 3 and then Death shows up to end it all?

And are the 2 hidden Darkin Kayle and Morgana? Considering the angel race is no longer canonical and the next best thing to a winged near immortal race of extremely powerful creatures that seem to embody some facet of humanity being the Darkin, in their cases salvation and damnation, which are the outcomes of the Apocalypse.

If a Darkin were to have been in the Shadow Isles or the Void, would they be consumed by it? Could they be part of their factions? Famine being part of the Shadow Isles and being emaciated as all get out, eating everything, while Pestilence is just engorged with the Void, practically bursting at the seams, infecting everything they touch, and since War is a very human force, it makes sense that Aatrox is just kickin' it with Tryndamere.

Tl;DR: When are we getting a new Darkin champion?

I can say with a pretty reasonable degree of certainty that Kayle and Morgana are not darkin. Like at all. They don't look like sentient weapons last I checked.

And we'll probably be getting a new darkin champion at some point. There's been a lot of darkin gears churning away while no one was looking.

They are from 8 years ago. Who's to say Kayle doesn't get a super cool badass eye of judgement on her sword that stares judgement lasers at people she points it as. Or Morgana gets some malicious black spirit that follows her around and becomes the projectile for her Q, her W, her shield and her chains.

A lot has happened to LoL in 8 years. The universe got reset, there have been 100 new champions, angels, demons, and gods no longer exist.

Sharjo works for Riot, so we can be pretty sure he knows more than we do. Also, Tahm Kench and Nocturne are demons and Aurelion Sol comes pretty close to a god.

However, does it mean, Darking ARE Sentient Weapons?

If Eduardo's word's anything to go by then history has remembered the darkin as sentient weapons. There's a lot of darkin lore I can't speak to atm since it's not player facing info but I'll try and at least clear up any confusion or questions you've got to the best of my abilities.

Eduardo's word on things is pretty recent all things considered. If anything his words are indicative of the change, not something to be discredited because things might change.

Since I read Eduardo's Journal in german I didn't notice that you used the exact same words as the narrator. In german they translated it as "living weapon", however the more fitting translation should have more emphasised the "feeling" aspect. And if someone call something a living weapon, it also could be used as metaphor. So I couldn't be sure if they are weapons or not.

I'm also aware that Eduardo is an unreliable narrator, which makes it even more complicated.

But still thank you for the clarification and I'm looking forward for the next lore bits.

Based on recent in lore discoveries, Darkin may actually be sentient weapons (So Aatrox might actually be the sword, the user is just the vessel it uses to fight and talk).

This leads to a popular theory that Varus's bow is also a Darkin and it's slowly corrupting Varus in order to take control later as a new host body. It keeps up with Varus's "power at a price" thematic and still lets "I'm on borrowed time." Be an impactful line.

Now none of this has been proven (unreliable narrator is something Riot likes to point out in champion interactions and that shouldn't stop there) so we could be wrong. But I like the idea of the Darkin being sentient weapons that eventually take control of their users.

I could see it, but Varus would need some major tweaking to make him a Darkin. Though, perhaps Varus's bow represents pestilence, as his ultimate infects a single champion and slowly spreads to the rest of their team.

I could see that mechanic shifting to his passive, as his little spheres he marks people with start to spread like a plague the more he attacks, which culminate in a huge wave clearing and team stunning effect.

Of course, the bow isn't 1 of the 2 hidden Darkin, as the world clearly knows the bow exists, considering there was an entire temple dedicated to sealing it away. So my idea of Kayle and Morg being the 2 hidden Darkin still stands.

Although, perhaps Vaurs is just the instrument of a Darkin, like how Demonblade Tryndamere is an instrument of Aatrox.

Varus isn't the Darkin, the bow is. Just because there is a temple dedicated to sealing it, doesn't mean everyone knew what it was.

Ionia has lots of temples. Outsiders probably don't know the difference.

But the way the 5 remaining Darkin were described makes it sound like there were the big 3, 1 of which is Aatrox and the other 2 who used to be major players, but their names have been lost to history, while the hidden two are new, or have been dormant for as long as Runeterra has existed.

Ether way, that bow could be either the Darkin itself, or a weapon connected to the Darkin that cursed Varus, just how Tryndamere became cursed.

That's an interesting proposition actually. Both Varus and Tryndamere were 'reborn' in sorts in the results of the chaos around slaughtered people. Aatrox directly had a link in Tryndamere's case but Varus' would be more of an indirect cause, considering how the pit of pallas / corruption comes into play.

From what we've seen between Aatrox and Tryndamere, the Darkin love to enthrall people. So Varus might be becoming enthralled by the Darkin of Pestilence, what with the blight and corrupting arrows. Who knows, maybe the actual Darkin is just sitting at the bottom of the pit, waiting for Varus to succumb to his influence.

Then when that Darkin gets released Varus can get a cool Demon Bow skin.

Overall I can understand why Riot is hesitant to release more darkin. After all they made it clear that there are only 5 darkin,so every darkin release has to be perfect or otherwise they get into a situation where they have already 5 darkins in the game and then regret making one,because they thought of an even better idea for a darkin.
