So whose the person who Freed Jhin? What part of Ionia is Jhin from? How does Ionia Work?

Not sure a guy like him should be allowed to walk freely in a country that values balance. So...even in Ionia people with high titles act in the Shadows. I knew Ionia had an elder ship, but there's also a council huh...And they have made jhin their go to assassin. Sounds to me like there are some who feels they need to act post-Noxian Invasion. And if that means playing Noxus' own game to get back at them, I'm up for it. Also, Jhin has revealed something we did not know about Ionia. They are aware of techmaturgy and hextech technology. Jhin reveals he was born in Ionia when taunting Lee sin saying "My fellow countryman." So it's a possibility that there's a city in Ionia that is much like the others on the mainland. Possibly more. It's also stated by Gypsylord that his weaponry is magic infused also. Hextech mixed with Ionia magic. That sounds Awesome. I'd also like to know exactly how politics work in Ionia. Are the Elders(including Karma) the ones with power, or is it the council. I'm really excited for Ionian lore. Shouldn't Shen be getting some new lore soon?

Yeah there is some fishy business going on in Ionia. Wouldn't surprise me if Yasuo not getting a fair trial and all was a scheme by someone from the council to get rid of the elder and make yasuo the scapegoat.

That sounds very plausible! Yasuo could have been framed for his master's murder by them indeed. It would have a to be a reason though. The best time to get a person with high respect and position out of the picture is during an invasion. This guy could have been in the way of a plan coming together. I'd bet he bribed some of the other students there to make it seem like his corpse was killed by a wind tech. Seems very possible at this point.

Shouldn't Shen be getting some new lore soon?

I'd assume so since his rework seems large enough, but until he gets an intro paragraph on the pbe we won't know for sure. Considering Jhin apparently has history with Shen and his father it seems like all the pieces are in place, but without that little paragraph it's impossible to say for certain.

On the rest of the Ionia implications though; Ionia's actually one of the least historically and culturally defined locales in Runeterra. That sounds weird but it's true; Ionia is essentially Runeterran Asia and we really know very little about them culturally, historically or otherwise. Only Bandle City and Mount Targon are bigger question marks at this point. I'm intrigued for what Jhin's (and potentially Shen's) lore can bring to light on this subjects, as just a couple of champion lores can reveal a crap ton. I mean last year Fiora and Poppy gave us a lot of insight in to Demacia, so I'm very intrigued at the prospect of some greater depth to the Ionian lore.

Which makes sense. Shen's new low is going to reveal some more things about jhin as well. Regarding his capture and possible what the ninjas did while the invasion was going on.

Would Shurima or Frejlord suffice instead? I'm just shocked they potentially use hextech there. I thought it was all magic and non firearm weapons.

Shurima and Freljord actually have relatively defined culture and history in a sense; we know how the general flow of their histories went and what their culture is like now. Not to the level of Bilgewater of course but it's still high up there. Ionia on the other hand is a total mystery; how their government works, what the political ecosystem is actually like, how the economy functions, how the provinces work if they still exist, how the invasion went down and was then resolved, if it even has been in the new lore, these are all big question marks. And don't even get me started on Ionia's ancient history, of which we know sod all about. The furthest back we've seen Ionian lore go is four hundred years in reference to Zed's lore. So much left to be discovered about Ionia.

Ironic for the nation with the largest pool of representative champions to be so very undefined in that sense.

I wonder if the spirit blade is going to be a new thing for Shen lorewise or if they'll just always have it been a thing.

I'd prefer it being a new thing for Shen in lore. It could strik another contrast with him and Zed. Zed's box vs Shen's sword.

I should start brainstorming a fanfic.

Given how entwined the sword is with Shen's abilities I feel like it'd be weird if it didn't have some lore behind it. Potentially the blade's supposed to be representative as his role as the Eye of Twilight; upon the edge of day and night the eye watches to keep balance, and when the scales tip in one direction the eye must work to bring the edge of twilight back in to equilibrium.

The blade could be representative of that inner balance Shen must have to be the Eye of Twilight, and he only claimed it as his weapon after he truly became the Kinkou's leader; I remember when Zed was released in his Q&A some rioters talked about how after Zed's dismantling of the old order Shen truly became the Eye of Twilight. Perhaps he became in tune with the blade then and is now able to use its full potential.

God I said "Eye of Twilight" so many times there. Also I hope the blade is called "Twilight's Edge". Or something. I think I've said that before but I'm reiterating it for emphasis.

Twilight, moonlight, sunlight...If the kinkou don't have some ancient connection to the Solari and Lunari then I'll be somewhat disapointed.

I wouldn't say that's the case mainly because the Kinkou are focused around balance and the idea of Twilight is more symbolic of said balance rather than indicative of the powers they utilise. Shen doesn't actually use the power of twilight as an element or magical power, the power he uses is his own Ki, enhanced by the equilibrium within himself.

Also geographically that'd be weird considering Mount Targon's probably landlocked and several hundred miles away from Ionia.

Remember that we don't have a full map. Targon could be near the ocean.

I feel like that'd be weird from a plate tectonics stand point. Targon and the Great Barrier (if that even exists anymore) always seemed like a very Himalayas style locale in terms of geography, and with that kind of plate activity you would have a situation where Valoran had two plates going straight through it to form the mountain range. If it was near the sea I feel like Targon would be a volcano, considering destructive plate boundaries in that situation; the land plate pushes the ocean plate down, destroying the ocean plate and creating volcanic activity.

Look at me, trying to use plate tectonics to discern the locations in a video game universe, I'm such a nerd.

I prefer the idea that the moonstone was given to the Marai by Bard. Some one postulated that theory over a year ago and I very much like it.

In my head it's either Bard being busy or that it's time for the Marai to leave the deep dark depths of the ocean, as the world needs them closer to the surface now. Perhaps the moonstone was a means of preserving the Marai because they would be essential to safeguarding Runeterra in the future and there were too many threats to their existence in the past that they would've been driven to extinction, but now it's safe for them to return or it's just essential they return to the surface world ASAP.

Effectively Nami's quest would be a means for her to see the surface world and coerce her people to give up on the moonstone and live closer to the sun and the skies.

Or maybe Bard's been busy and couldn't deliver the stone in time. I dunno.

Well she wasn't anyway; she was just the girl who had the balls to take action where no one else would.

But that might come to bite them in the arse if they were supposed to just vacate the deeps, and are waiting on Nami instead, resulting in their extinction via deep sea monstrosities of ancient indomitable doom.

Ok now I'm sad. Nami's one of my favourite champions I don't want that to be how things turn out for her! :(

Just saying, Hextech IS technology infused with magic... so, saying "Hextech mixed with Ionia magic" is a little redundant.
