Future of Lore

Ok guys....It's a new year.

We know last year that Narrative made bad choices. One great one that severely hurt us lore fans. But now it's 2015 After months of waiting for Narrative to release something, we've gotten a few stories to at least know whats going on in different parts of Runeterra.

Such as the revival of Shurima, more in depths of Noxus, The shadow Isles and Bilgewater, and what lurks in the Shuriman Desert. And we recently got that Amumu is a ancient prince. Let's put the Iow aside for now and see what lore were gonna get this year(hopefully something this month) A new season is about to start and maybe this is when Narrative is gonna decide to show what they have so far.

I kinda miss talking about actual lore and the story, rather than the unlimited post of "changing lore back" or "That Narrative isnt doing right" It is getting old...

fully agree with this. It gets really tiresome that the board is full of threats about wanting the old lore back.

I mean I am not really happy with this retcon either, but I am ready to give the new lore a chance and look forward to what we'll see.

I wish I could get excited for lore, and merrily discuss it again. The retcon sapped that away, and ruined further pieces regardless of quality; I would've enjoyed Sion's thing far more if it came before that blog post. But I'm not really posting threads on the subject, so I guess there's that.

There might be a "bigger fish to fry" aspect to it as well. New stuff might be all well and good, but the premise of the game has been gutted, and the lore department for the most popular game in the world has gone completely against the entire point of using games as a storytelling medium (there has to be a rule or something about this somewhere). I'm sorry I can't bring much cheerful discussion about new things, but something a bit more "pressing" has a lot of my attention.

I'm so tired of walking into the Lore Forum and expecting to see a fight breaking out in every topic. Come on guys, we used to only do this like once a month. Let's take a few deep breaths and let a couple things go.

I miss being able to care about champions and characters in the lore.

Ever since Trundle got bluntly removed, I haven't allowed myself to get too invested or I'd get hurt again. I'm amazed not more people are troubled by the fact that Riot seems entirely willing to remove a character and get a new one to take over his kit. I can't get excited anymore about the lore because it would just be me telling Riot to stab me in the back again. That'd be just plain stupid of me.

You know this is exactly what they want you to do. It's old i get it. But, you can't have change if you are not willing to fight for it. If it means something to you then it's worth the effort.

I have said this before several times. Look at what they are doing as a whole, look at the bigger picture.

They are denerdifying the client. They removed it from the in game tab, individual lore for each champ is getting shorter and they are moving it to the website which a lot of people don't use. Hardly anything has changed and they have had more than enough time to work on it all. They don't care about it because most players play to play not sit and read bios. Their is no money in it. It is all about $$$$ and the e-sports scene. They want more people playing it and an easy way to do that is to make it more appealing to a greater audience. They want this on channels like ESPN, they want it taken seriously.

Yes, I did enjoy all the talks. Back when we had things to work with. We are given nothing now. Time will tell what happens I suppose.

Lore used to be a more relevant issue when it was released bi-weekly. For some reason, Riot has decided not to release text based lore on a consistent basis anymore, like it did with the JoJ.

For some reason they thought it would be better to release lore once every few months with voice over in the in-game client that would talk about one or two champions, and a few pictures. Also the odd video.

Personally, I think this is a move in the wrong direction, and I don't really see how/why the narrative team in charge of story is spending much time working on videos (which I assume they must be, considering the lack of content).

Considering the rate in which Riot produces new lore theses days, it really feels like they might have one guy working part-time on it.

I wish this forum was a little more positive also, though i can understand why with the world in such a state of ret-con limbo its hard to discuss too much. Although narrative says to take the lore as is with just the summoners removed its hard when the Iow and summoners were such an important part of the world, which doesn't even take into account that Riot is completely changing the world down to the geography. Most of the locations of the city-states relative to each other are a mystery ,at most we have concrete details for freljord , shurima and some very sparse details of bilgewater/ SI.

Mostly its up to Riot to reconstruct the world before we can start losing ourselves in it again.
