I know some love the new champ... but theres a reason why many of us are disappointed...
Caution: Words, go to end for tl:dr
If you told me Riot was making an edgy, anime-esque character with duality of soul, transforming kit, wielding a long community wanted Scythe that also has ties to Darkins and Zed's shadow order; I would have said "you've got to be kidding me"
And so, "YOUVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME"
While many are in love with this champion, seeing everything they hoped for coalescing into the new champ, a great deal of people are also disappointed.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still excited for this champ, I do most definitely want to play him, but I, like many have my qualms and overall am still disappointed.
In essence, EVERYTHING about Kayn is completely overloaded. No this is not a balance rant, but not ever have I seen a character with a backstory/thematic so crowded and filled with fan pleasers, to the point that I actually find it sort of cringeworthy.
I am disappointed because he is too much! Less is more! Fans have wanted Darkins, fans have wanted a scythe wielding champion, and I'm sure many edgeords have wanted expansion on Zed and his clan for ages. But to have ALL these crowdpleasers crammed into one champion, honestly makes him feel IRONICALLY underwhelming.
They, in my opinion, did not need to cram all these into one, we could have gotten a hype train going by giving us just a focused Darkin champion, and hell, even give it a scythe since it fits thematically and even that transformation mechanic to show the struggle of power . But I really dislike combining the whole shadow element.
TLDR- by combining all the fan wanted concepts, with little to no buildup, we have a very lacklustre champion that epitomises MORE IS LESS
Edit: also he looks extremely generic in his base form
