Self-Harm and the No-Care attitude

So recently I've played a couple of games with a guy (lets call him LuxPlayer) who seems to be going through some problems, keeps talking about suicide and killing themselves. Now, of course I talked with him as I was concerned (I mean I don't know if its a fake story or if its legit but ofc better safe than sorry), and we played a couple of games as he seemed like he needed a friend. So, he seems better now, but the issue I want to bring up is that if you see someone talking about it seriously, don't diss them off. Suicide and self-harm are serious issues, and even though I don't know this particular player IRL, I know plenty of others going through similar stuff, some, my real-life friends even. For him, and presumably a lot of other players, League is an escape, from a world where they don't want to be in, so please don't promote suicide by any means.

I was in a game with a Jhin, who, in complete lack of care by the end game screen, told LuxPlayer, who was talking about their issues, LuxPlayer: "please someone tell me to not do it" To which I tried to console them, but the Jhin with his lack of care says: -"then just go ahead and do it" Me: jesus jhin Jhin: ur not him parents or anything so don't get all on his case just let him do what he wants Me (to LuxPlayer): srsly dude don't do it, you do have a choice Jhin: let him suicide, its his life

Sorry if I'm sounding preachy but to me that is pretty unacceptable behavior. If you don't care, then fine, you don't have to, you don't know them, but please, for the love of god then don't add anything to the flame. If you don't care go out of the end-game screen and just don't say anything, that is better than telling them to do it.

I understand if some people might be joking around about it in chat, but if someone appears to be talking about it seriously or acting off in game please do not promote it.

EDIT: wow there's a lot of division in the comments. At least none of you are like the Jhin.

To clear things up, I'm not saying he is 100% true, I don't even know if they really are suicidal, but as I said, better safe than sorry. I'm also not saying you have to care, if you honestly don't want to involve yourself it's fine. The main point I'm trying to get across is just don't be an asshole if you see these sort of people, as this Jhin was.

Honestly, it's stupid of them to bring something like this up in a competative online game (known for a toxic community who tell you to kill yourself anyways, mind you) to a bunch of strangers. If they want to talk about it they should just find someone they had a friendly expirence in game with and talk with them. For the record, yes it is fucked up for people to say that, but anonymity gives you enough disconnect that a lot of people will allow themselves to be douchbags.

In short, don't become emotionally vunerable while on an online game with strangers.

I love how a few have said it's a cry for attention. Sure, it might be, but let me let you in on a little secret...

Some depressed and suicidal people will cry for attention because they want someone to stop and help them.

Yeah, some do it just for the attention because they think they deserve it, and some lie about being depressed or suicidal to get the attention. But for those of us who are depressed and/or suicidal, we'll "cry for attention" because sometimes, that's the only thing we can think to do to get help.

When someone is so deep into a depressed or suicidal state they won't suddenly think, "oh maybe I should call 911 or something". No, we think to cry to whoever we care about most in hopes they'll care. If we don't have anyone like that, or can't reach anyone like that, we go to strangers in hopes of help.

And most don't help because they brush it off thinking it's nothing.

Sure, League isn't the place to go for help, but if you see it then well.. report it. Let Riot know and they will contact the right authorities. Brushing it under the carpet wont solve anything.

Thats the type of shit that makes me rather upset an honestly makes me lose allot of hope for the human race

people would rather urge on someone to commit suicide then help them out so they can go on to maybe do something good with there lives its disgusting

I love your post. There is so much negativity in life, let this game be a fun out.

I'm seeing a lot of comments saying this guy is stupid to bring it up here. The people saying that do not know what it's really like to want to commit suicide. Truth is this guy may not have a friend to talk to or anyone else to come to.

Op you did the right thing. There is darkness in this world and it's important to be as bright as you can because of it.

Please don't judge people like this lux player they've got enough to deal with without your negativity.

It is messed up, and to some people they don't care. At the same time we are here to enjoy and play a game. Keep your personal problems out of this game. Its great to ask for help if you need it but at the same time we cannot help every single person. That is what clinic and people who are trained to do that are for. I mean its only a matter of time people try this out just to get something out of someone. I mean what is stopping this person from asking for money/RP and basically use Suicide as an excuse? I've seen it happen before and its disgusting, but you shouldn't believe every single person who plays this card because it can be dangerous

If he's asking random strangers about wether or not he should kill himself then he's just looking for more validation to do it and there not much to do about that other than getting over to a doctor.

It's basically the same thing as complaining in all chat. No one cares, no matter how bad the situation or how you feel.
