Riot, I have a question about Boram Darkwill's immortality

Obviously he wasn't fully immortal since he was assassinated, but he was alive during Jarvan the 1st death and died during the reign of Jarvan the 3rd.

Now I'm not going to ask how long he lived since that gives us details on how the royal line has been since the 1st's death. Rather I'm curious as to when Boram began to extend his lifespan. Was he already in the habit before 's death, or did he find a way to extend his lifespan through the research and magical notes he searched for when trying to bring Sion back to life (before the Black Rose went a screwed him over)?

What the hell kinda last name is Darkwill? Like honestly. If there's anything I wouldn't mind being retconned, it's that name. Might as well have been Boram Meandude.

The fantasy sounding names, that's what. Course Fiora and Katarina have more French based names...

Edit: And what kind of name is Boram anyway? Apparently it's korean, course that doesn't matter in the setting of Runeterra.

Ya but Lightshield and Crownguard are just random fantasy jargon put together to form names. They sound weird but they don't mean anything. Darkwill has ACTUAL meaning, which just increases it's stupid factor by like 5.

Not a good explanation, but his name doesn't really matter cause he is dead.

Well if we go by actual historical medieval surnames (not exactly a strict parallel I know) you tend to find two for nobles: their title as surname. So Bob the imaginary duke of Lancaster would just be called Duke Bob Lancaster, but also their family names. Which were often just the names of the first probably forgotten guy in their lineage or a made up name people gave themselves and it stuck. To go back to the Lancaster example their family name was Gilbert which actually means Bright-pledge in the original Germanic we just don't think of it as anything but Gilbert now, but the earliest most certainly knew what they were saying. So you would know people who were named Bob Noble-truth or Hank Eyes-that-see-God or whatever. Which matches the Demacian naming conventions.

But Noxians are kind of different as they're all pretty obviously evil. Darkwill does not breed confidence, which is self-defeating. That's why you won't find anyone named Andy Dirty-liar or Evil-devil-worshiper in any medieval text. Even if those may well have been their defining traits, no one in their right mind would take that as their name.

Now what people called them behind their back is different there could very well be Boram that the people have named Darkwill. But again, no one would use that. That's painting a big sign on their back that says "don't trust me, I have evil motives."

Also, if you want to be fierce, might as well calling yourself with something empowering rather something that says "yo i am an evil motherfucker and so is my descendance"
