So yeah lets talk about what Archetypes are still missing in the game.

In the old forums I had a thread under my NA-account about the archetypes(or thematical niches) of the characters in the game(back then it was in the champ-creation-forum,but with the change to boards I feel it actually fits more into the art-section). Because from what we've heard riot is trying to let every champ fill some sort of fantasy that no other champ fills(very often even mutliple at once),for example this year we've got Vel'koz who is a beholder,Braum who is a strongman/farmer/shieldguard,Gnar who is a caveman/hulk-out-guy,Azir who is an emporer/sand-mage/Ra-expy and Sion became an undead Juggernaut.

Of course when discussing this,we should keep in mind that a unique archetype isn't everything that makes a champ,a personality and a kit also belong to that, but this is not the thread to discuss those, this threads exists to discuss existing archetypes, new ideas for archetypes and what you would like to see the most! Note that simply making a yordle-version of an already existing arche-type is not enough and yeah this list is going to be long^^

Magical/Elemental: -a master of the 4 elements(maybe an udyr-like champ without ult) -a water elemental(sure nami is already a water user, but her core theme is being a mermaid) -someone who uses light and dark magic -likewise someone who uses fire and ice -vodoo champ/witchdoctor -magical artist -puppeteer -mirror mage -woman who controls her hair(could also be a futakuchi onna, having actual living hair) -Barrier magic -champ with swamp powers(either a swamp monster or a swamp mage) -a priest(well karthus could arguably be seen as one already) -a miko(priest might also be represented through miko) -Imitator/doppelgänger -champ with smoke/mist powers -gold based champ -portal based champ(could also be a technological champ) -an actual summoner?(as in someone who uses summons to fight and yes it'd be kind of ironic) -Druid -gravity champ(dunno if that would be too similar to syndra) -psychic(similar to the gravity champ this might be similar to syndra)

technological/science: -jetpack user -high-tech-armor user -motorcycle champ -yordle tank(i am talking about the vehicle tank) -Robot master -doctor/medic(as in someone who uses his biological knowledge in combat, unlike mundo) -A grenadier(think of a rather modern soldier, unsure if you could count tristana as one) -cowboy

physical: -Miner(probably a yordle who looks a bit like a mole) -Cavalerist -beast master -Blacksmith(poppy has shades of this, but she isn't one and it is in no way part of her skillset) -Thief(C from caitlyns lore would obviously be a candidate) -bandit(not sure if bandit AND thief would be needed) -god father/crime boss(not sure how you'd make a skillset for one,but the concept itself could be very interesting) -Chef -an old master(probably kung fu fighter?) -Admiral -a Wrestler(or someone who uses wrestling moves in general) -an amazon(as in really muscular woman) -aztec champ(could also be magical) -a really noble woman, like some sort of countess or princess(we have j4 as a prince already) -a gladiator -a Weaver(would probably do some magic stuff with weaving, like some kind of weaver of fate, but I list it here, because it doesn't have to be magical) ** antropomorphic animals:** -Chameleon(I think chameleons are the most outstanding lizards, which would help to seperate such a champ from renekton) -frog(also rather outstanding animals who are in no way represented already) -salamander(dunno if that would work) -dinosaur(maybe someone who manages to combine several types of dinosaur into one? This one could also easily fall into the monster category)

non-humanoid champs: -cerberus(we got infernal nasus though) -pack hunter -chesire cat -hydra(there was one once in development, but seems to have been cancelled for now) -sphinx -hive mind/brood mother(not sure if elise doesn't fill this role already) -griffon(unsure if it would work on its own) -chimera(not sure if this couldn't be too monstrous) -sea serpent -centipede champ(maybe with splitting powers?) -Manticore(would probably exclude chimera and Sphinx due to the similarities)

undead: -Banshee -Death knight(sion or Mordekaiser could be seen as one though,a headless knight would be cool too) -vampire -davy jones like character(not sure if he/she would be actually undead or just transformed) -skeletal beast(since only human skeletons are a no-go in china) -a zombie(formerly I would have said Sion could be seen as one,but he is now more of an undead juggernaut instead of a classical zombie) -Yuki onna

other fantasy beings: -harpy -djinn -oni -imp -asura(a multi-armed champ would be cool in general and no viktor doesn't count) -succubus(evelynn is getting a thematic overhaul, maybe she'll become a succubus) -Cyclops -posessed object(like a ghost sword) -a person who is posessed by some creature(important would be that both the person and the creature are part of the champ, otherwise it'd be too similar to the corruption of Varus) -Mothman -Tengu -a champ who consist of a swarm of several creatures.

other -a twin champ(or some kind of team?) -An antique living Weapon(could be magical or/and technological,so I dunno where to put it) -A champ based around speed, maybe some kind of racer or courier

To touch on the idea of a voodoo champion, I definetly think it's a space that could be explored really heavily. The issue being that I feel like to do a voodoo champion justice, they'd have to go FULL HAM on it.

When people think of voodoo, they think of "I hear da spirits!" and that jazz right? But these spirits, which in Haitian Voodoo are called Loa, all have distinct roles and personalities, and they exist in EVERYTHING. There's loa for big universal concepts like the oceans, the earth and animals, and there's loa for individual streams, mountains, trribes, even trees. Trees have their own individual loa associated with them. One core principle in both kinds of Voodoo, west african and haitain, is that everything is created by divine powers. Their is one major god who made everything, and the loa exist as a medium between humans and that god. This divine creation is also why there's an association with mummified creatures and dead stuff, because all things carry divine properties, and as such these tribal medicine and charms would also carry it. What better way to cure the flu than through divine healing right?

This is a concept I'd like to see, because I feel like a Voodoo champion could have ties to a whole bunch of other stuff in League:

Anivia Anivia: Spirit of the Freljord. In voodoo context, a super powerful and important spirit who this voodoo champion would see and likely revere.

Azir Azir: An entity who commands the sands and has ascended thanks to the power of the sun. That's double spiritual influence for our voodoo champion to be interested in!

Brand Brand: Primal fire elemental of doomy doom. What kind of horrific dark omen would seeing brand be for a voodoo champion? A pretty sodding big one!

Diana Diana: I'd imagine the moon would have an associated spirit. Perhaps there's a lot these two could learn from each other.

Fiddlesticks Fiddlesticks: So what is Fiddle a harbinger of? Doom? Well what kind of doom? Perhaps some spiritual voodoo insight could clear it up!

Janna Janna: Being a wind mage with a wind elemental companion would probably draw the interest of someone who likes the spirits, wouldn't you say?

Leona Leona: As said with Azir, SUN!!! Also a pretty cool relationship here, perhaps through the power of voodoo and knowing the nature of the spirits of the sun and the moon, can this champion help bridge the divide between Lunari and Solari, between dawn and dusk, between Leona and Diana?

Malphite Malphite: He's literally a living mountain. While his lore hasn't been updated yet, such a massive, living being of earth would definetly draw the attention of anyone who partakes in voodoo.

Maokai Maokai: Since Maokai's now a spirit trapped in a twisted tree (I assume that's what he is at any rate), a voodoo champion would have a vested interest in helping him out, since spirits are of a divine nature. In contrast...

Elise Evelynn Hecarim Karthus Mordekaiser Thresh Yorick : ALL of these guys would be on their shit list. Abominations that pervert the sanctity of the divine, that would get someone's blood boiling I'm sure.

Nami Nami: a child of the ocean and whatever spirit is associated with it, they could perhaps have some kind of kinship. Perhaps through the knowledge of spirits, this voodoo champion knows more about the threat to Nami's people, and could help her out just a bit.

Nautilus Nautilus: On the flip side, Nautilus would probably be a terrifying sight for this voodoo champion. The dark, forboding and evil power that has twisted Nautilus could have horrifying origins that this voodoo fellow knows about, and would rather not delve in it.

Nocturne Nocturne: Maybe a stretch but since we don't really know what Nocturne is, maybe someone with knowledge of the spirits could provide an answer?

I've run out of room apparently so think about this: Udyr, Volibear and Zyra as well! VOODOO!!!

I would kill for a gravity champion

Ultîma10/20/2014, 5:29:14 PM2 votes

A gravity-mage is something that would both be unique and offer some really cool skill opportunities in-game. The league-roster is already saturated with elemental-mages so something a bit more mystical like Zilean and his time powers would be neat to see in-game.

That being said, if there's anything League needs desperately it's characters of a less-than-human nature. A Hydra, Worm or Wisp champion would do add a nice touch to the roster!

Zarxis10/20/2014, 7:03:59 PM2 votes

We need a necromancer. Hopefully, the Yorick rework (that we'll never get, at this rate) will provide one.

Zarxis10/20/2014, 7:37:50 PM1 votes

I like Azir, but his "minions" are simply enablers for the rest of his kit, not true pets/summonables. Memories of dead soldiers seems to be closer to illusion than necromancy; I want resurrected/undead entities fighting for me. Yorick's ghouls work for this purpose, but I don't like how they're so easy to kill and avoid. Not to mention how old/ugly Yorick looks and how boring his actual playstyle is. The most exciting thing in his kit is probably his Q's autoattack reset... I hope Riot doesn't rename his skills, though.

Graves is a cowboy though.

Zeppelins, we need Zeppelins.

Does Taric count as an earth mage, a light mage or some kind of in-between . It says "It is the magic of the earth, drawing power from the resonance of crystals and gems" in his lore. and 3/5 of his skill are earth based, but his main offensive skill work off the light and energy refracted through his gem.

Also couldn't Kayle be considered as a priest, since due to being a user of holy/divine magics.

RoyaiChaos10/21/2014, 3:49:27 AM1 votes

We don't have a "royalty" archetype. I mean, we do have royalty, but none really have kits based around it. There is Azir of course, but he gets too close the action imo and to me is more of a sand general mage bird. But I guess he does count.

Riot, do we already have a Chinese Girl kind of character? The Chinese-themed characters so far seems to be guys only... LeeSin MonkeyKing XinZhao

LightBae10/21/2014, 2:30:28 PM1 votes

Broomstick rider, actual fan user with wind powers or something (PLEASE JANNA! TRAIN ANOTHER since karma somehow forgot how to use fans).

Terra Booma10/22/2014, 8:04:46 PM1 votes

There's a distinct lack of a thief if you think about it.

assassins? Sure

Pirates? sure

Cheatersatcardgames? Sure

But no street rat thief based kit.

(Talon doesn't really count)

notrocketdrive10/24/2014, 8:48:07 AM1 votes

A real fucking villain/antagonist that doesn't follow the disney formula of "bad because bad"

doubleguac10/20/2014, 5:15:43 PM1 votes

I'd love to see a witchcraft themed champion in the game--a caster focused on hexes and curses. Could be a cool support. I feel like Riot has intentionally avoided a champion centered around debuffs, probably because s/he could easily be very frustrating to play against. But I'm sure Riot could come up with a cool, interactive kit if they put their minds to it.

As for thematics/visuals, I'd love to see more monsters, but there are a ton of really basic archetypes that Riot hasn't explored in the human cast. League's humans are pretty homogeneous in certain ways. There is very little diversity in age (aside from Zilean and Annie, pretty much every human champion in the game looks like they are somewhere in their 20s or 30s). There is also hardly any diversity in body types among the women. Shyvana and Sej are barely any bulkier or more noticeably muscular than Lux. I don't think Riot needs to make a female gragas, but a little more variety would be nice.

GreenLore12/11/2014, 5:11:48 PM1 votes

So yeah bumping this since we've got Kalista and soon RekSai now. Kalista is what I'd call a vengeful spirit(or ghost in general),as well as a supernatural avatar(with shades of things like bloody mary),I never listed something like that in my list, made only a small mention about it for banshee(I'd say banshee is still different enough from kalista, especially if they go for a more corporal version)

Rek'sai is basically tunneler monster,I think I remove sand worm from the list, because even though rek'sai is no worm, she has enough similarities to sandworms

GenoXx10/20/2014, 5:17:05 PM1 votes

I woulsnt have thought you knew about Yuki-ona, but she falls under the ghost category, The yuki-onna is a snow ghost. Also, you could have th e Kuchi-onna for ghost(although shes not a likely candidate.) ...eh, a lot of these. I could hardly think of some atm, but theres also Psychic- fighter(could possibly be a kid like Ness from Earthbound-theres annie) ......lol idk, pretty much a lot of them are listed.

Terra Booma10/20/2014, 5:21:31 PM1 votes

Well I don't think there's an earth mage yet

We got Liss for Ice Brand/Annie for Fire And Debatably Nami for water.

And I'm not about to count Malphite as an earth mage. He uses himself more then the earth.

Merxamers10/20/2014, 6:59:27 PM1 votes

i've been thinking that it would be cool to see a swashbuckler type, like an Errol Flynn/Zorro guy. Not just a mail version of Fiora; think brash, adventurous, larger than life, Dread Pirate Roberts kinda-guy. Could even be a new Bilgewater champion!
