Why the Iron Revenant's such a fitting title
Today was a good day, I woke up, took a shower and started preparing myself for another day at my University and skipping through the red tracker I noticed something odd being written in my old Morde discussion thread. And behold, Mordekaiser's title was changed to better reflect the vicious wraith haunting the Harrowing.
Now then, why is it such a fitting title?
Well, for this little dissection I'm going to split the name in two just like
, IRON and REVENANT
Iron -Iron is a metal, duh. -But it's much more than that, it symbolizes the iron grip Morde holds over his conquered souls. -It's cold, lifeless, it's an instrument of destruction just like The Kaiser of Morde himself. -It pays homage to his Iron man passive -It's often associated with dominance and sturdiness (Ruling with an iron fist, etc.) -It makes Morde still be affiliated with metal
Revenant -There's actually a trash/death metal band named Revenant so there's that ;D
-In the middle ages Revenants were rumored to be the reanimated spirits of the long dead, their undying will making these specters rise from Their graves to haunt the living. -> Directly tied to Morde being kept alive by his sheer force of will -Their (un)living was caused by them trying to achieve a certain goal, the need to fulfill a promise, unfinished business. Be it Revenge, an unfulfilled promise, seeking destruction, dominion, having failed to bring down their enemies and so on. -> It implies Morde's got unfinished business that makes him unable to die, Death itself is no obstacle for him! -Revenants were often associated with bringers of disease and death, which Morde's notorious for, even more so in his old lore. -Revenants are often described as the souls of fallen warriors and high ranking soldiers/kings -Revenants are a common theme in the tales of the Wild hunt, a myth similar to the harrowing, making me draw parallels with Mordekaiser and the King of the Wild hunt
All in all we can safely agree that this new title not only serves its purpose to strike fear in the hearts of metal men but also describe Mordekaiser nearly perfectly. It certainly makes me hyped for his extended lore and what riot decides to do with him in the future!
