Is Diana the Key to Defeating the Darkin? [Lore Dive]

According to the Twilight of the Gods story, the moon holds the potential to destroy the Ascended, and, it seems, it does so very effectively. As the Aspect of the Moon Diana holds a fraction of this power, but given how many Ascended were wiped out so easily in that story, this seems like it might be sufficient.

Lore-wise, it seems that Diana might have a real chance at destroying the Darkin once and for all. Thoughts?

I hope so bc Diana is the best and should be able to solve all LoLs problems. And maybe she can kill new Aatrox in the process.

Hmm, The power of the moon pushed back the void monsters from Nami's village, and the darkin / post Icathia ascendant were "touched" by the void. Hmmmm

I think that could be true. The Moon aspect has been associated with stopping other powerful threats. Such as in Nami's lore their supposed to recieve a moon stone once in a while to ward off the void.

And as the Moon ripped the power out of the Ascended, turning them human, The moon aspect may be associated with some magic "dragging" affect. Could be a reference to Diana's in-game E

So I could see her potentially drawing the Darkin from their weapons, removing their imortality but also giving them more power, or just strainght up rip their power away.

Also, pretty sure it was the moon hurting people who worshipped the sun that started the civil war of the Targonians. But thats a different topic entirely. Just one that could get messy if the Sun Aspect decided the Darkin were still "her people", polling a whole "Poseiden and Odysius" move.

I'll say this again as I did before. That spell required the Chalicar, an extremly unique Ascended weapon, and it was required to be cast by a Darkin. It's not just "Oh Diana can 1 shot Ascended with the moon" because she can't.

AurelionSol “You and Leona embody the same light. Typical Targon redundancy”.

The line about the Moon undoing what the sun did was 90% poetic stuff. The spell needed cosmic magic. Maybe yes, the light of the Moon was specifically needed for that specific spell but that’s all.

"The Key" is an odd terms, able to is better. Darkin/Ascended are not all powerful.

First, the bodies they are currently walking around in are not their former glorious Ascended selves. They are probably weak and brittle in comparison, sure Aatrox has had practice and butchering people to his own form but that doesn't mean he's Ascended.

Then, in Twilight of the Gods, an Ascended/Darkin was killed by another (2 if you count the one Nasus apparently killed in the library) and that was just from normal combat. Same power vs same power. It stands to reason that any number of the beings currently walking around Runeterra would easily be able to not only hold their own to these Darkin but might have an easiler time due to their current forms being weaker.

Their were powerful before because they had Ascended forms they infused with blood magic ruining themselves, now they are just spirits trapped in weapons.

Ehhh, i dont think so.

Currently the only known method of permanently killing a Darkin is Illaoi. Assuming she could defear one
