The July Roadmap announced a Freljordian Vanguard

But what do we know about the behemoth of Galio's lore :

  • "His eyes found a bigger prize – a titanic shape, seeming almost as tall as the hills behind it"
  • " A towering behemoth of a creature"
  • "covered in thick, matted fur"
  • "a beady pair of jet-black eyes"
  • "the creature erupted in a fearsome roar"
  • "one swipe of a saber-like claw"
  • "This was a huge, terrible beast"
  • "its claws raking away a piece of his head."

But most importantly :

As the abomination limped away into the distance, Galio gave it one last wistful gaze. “Farewell, great beast.”

It's free and Alive ! There is no reason the Lore deparment would have described so well this creature If it's to never see it again Just like in the Cinema, if it's not dead, expect to see it again

Would be nice for Freljord to have it's own colossus too

Watchers are Freljord related We lack lore and informations about them (just like with Darkins before) So getting a Watcher champion after all this time sounds fair

who said watchers are little and ehem vanguards can be small to with kinda have a big shield/a power that can make a big shield. Imagine a yordle vanguard or drawf. ps: amumu

Maybe not as big as the behemoth from the short story(which likely wasn't a watcher anyway,it seemed to be a beast),but they are definetly not small.

Notice how the constellation is basically the top of part of the Watcher on the left in the concept art.

I think it's somewhat of a representation of a Watcher, that constellation, all things considered, rather than its full form.

Also, their nature has always been mysterious in the lore, so fully revealing them in an unrelated teaser (Bard's) doesn't sound very fitting.

Well in addition to the point that Dwarvengiant mentioned,there are the statues of the howling abyss who do look like these concept arts,so they are still like this in the game.

we don't know much info about the watchers though. so its not impossible

Don't get me wrong, I don't mean that it is impossible to be a watcher. But people bring them up every single time. ^^

It was the same with Kayns teaser. We just got an eye, everyone was speculating the next champ to be a watcher. The only point hinting towards the direction of watchers in this case is that the champion is from Freljord.

So, yes, it is possible that it is a watcher. But I wouldn't bet on it.

Then i realized we recently got :

  • a Darkin item 3812 (Rhaast)
  • ** another shadow ninja** Kayn
  • an Interdimmensionnal travellarBard
  • a Space Dragon AurelionSol

So yeah, an Iceborn or a Watcher are not out of place [slayer-jinx-catface]

There is one hint that makes me think you are correct

About the new champions being a watcher rather a behemoth beast

Sion is as tall as half Galio's forelog. He's nowhere near the size of a colossus.

Is Gnar really Colossal?

Hes definitely bigger than Sion I'd say he's about the size of a truck in mega form but I didn't think he'd be anywhere near as big as Galio

Or the Freljord could be its own thing and so powerful it doesn't NEED a colossus to compensate for Trundle's tiny stick.

I think its a defining thing of the Freljord. It seems each place has a lot of the same "types" of champions. Freljord, like you said, has a lot of big (and blue) creatures, it's not completely unique to the region but is something that is associated with it. Ionia has a lot of ninja-type characters and magical or nature based creatures/characters , so on and so forth.
