Am I the only one getting a very WoW-esque vibe from the Karthus/Sej/etc skins?
just me???
just me???
Nope. I'm getting it as well as I did with the previous RPG skins.
More RPG skins, the dream is alive!
On towards [Orc/Shaman] Illaoi Seatotem/Grimspirit/Tidestone? :>
(Seriously though, love the skins!)
Actually while exploring these skins we did talk about doing a Half-orc. We've already done a Drow so we were really thinking about what other non-human races people love to rp. As you can see we ended up doing and elf, but half orc didn't happen sadly.
What's a drow?
Dark elf
Thanks
Sion would be the easy pick, I guess? I think Olaf could be a good candidate, too :D (if we are talking about a barbarian half-orc)
We definitely need an Anti-Paladin Morde then^^
Anti-Paladins hurt my brain! As if that's a real class haha. I sort of see Morde as a Sorcerer who got just enough strength to move in Heavy Plate unencumbered and uses a magical mace that allows him to spellcast without penalty and then proceeds to wreck everything the DM throws in his path while randomly and, quite confusingly healing his allies >:)
Funny story really, my current DnD character started as a righteous Paladin but getting fed up with his party he started becoming more reckless and selfish. Awesome Flame sword loot? Nope, our rogue won't get that.
If I'm going to tank and bleed for it it's mine. Funny how one's party can even corrupt the most shining example of righteousness.
But I love the picture you're painting of what kind of character he could be. Probably rolls critical hits on everything in combat but outright sucks at getting anything above a 12 when using "Diplomacy" or NPC interaction
And yes, I speak from experience, my character's got +6 on Intimidation but I always roll very low numbers. Heck, my GM gave me an irrational phobia of Boars because I tried intimidating one during a hunt and rolled a goddamn ONE. What made this even worse was that our fellow Druid had a frigging Boar as his familiar >_<
Haha! That's a great story. Which is what I love most about RPGs; collaborative storytelling. Since the dawn of man we've gathered around fires and tables to eat and share stories. It's awesome >:)
Yeah, that's the best thing about RPG's! The scenario might be the same and the GM went through it a dozen times but a different cast of characters with different people playing them makes for a constantly changing, quirky and absolutely awesome experience.
Also, what's with Sorcerers and them being borderline insane? Our current Sorcerer just monologues during the fight and maybe flings some magical dart at the enemy while I just try to clear a path.
At least he casts magical armor on me so he at least does SOMETHING right XD
Haha I don't know man, we had a Warlock that was obsessed with fashion. Way more than helping us.
I gtg to sleep it's super late but I'm going to tell everyone at work tomorrow that I got to chat with THE Malicious Metal xD
Well, it takes two to tango, always up for some banter!^^
Anyways, good night, your sleeping schedule reminds me of mine, you NA folks and your time zones are hella weird for an European like me XD
This talking of RPGs makes me sad that my DM has had to cancel for the past 3 weeks.
I know that feel, hard to make out a date on which every single person could dedicate some time to RP
Nice^^ My character, Nimrod's the snarky fighter of the group who always has to do ALL the work, usually ending up drenched in monster blood from head to toe. They're jokingly suggesting that he dyes his armor a vivid crimson^^
Really helps that the rest of the party's filled with warlocks, bards and other support-y classes that don't really get into the thick of battle
I mean, do they even still call them anti-paladins? I just thought they were called paladins, but served a dark god instead of a good one
Someone doesn't know his history :P
The Anti-Paladin was first printed in Dragon #39 for AD&D 1E. The B/X Ravager was also basically an anti-paladin.
Also, if you want to build him in 5E like you seem to be trying to be, Morde can be a multiclass Paladin/Sorcerer. A level or two in paladin gets you heavy armor proficiency and his light healing abilities, as well as the Divine Smite ability and access to the Smite family of weapon spells.
Well, well, someone knows his DnD! :D

I'm kind of a huge nerd >.>
Been playing D&D (and TTRPGs in general) for 21 years, and I like reading about the history of the hobby before I got into it too.
So you're exactly who we are thinking about when we worked on the RPG skins. I hope there's something there that made you smile!
Well played! Time to Smite and Ignite.
Kindle, I beg of you. Whenever Urgot's VGU comes around and he's up for skins again, give him an Azmodan one.
I would love a demonlord Urgot skin.
I agree some kind of Infernal skin would suit the old Urgot. The new Urgot? Remains to be seen...

Thanks for Paladin Jayce :3
Now I want to ask why wasn't Aurelion Sol included in the worldbreaker skin line >.> Do you have already other plans in motion for him?
With 132 champions, choices that may seem obvious to one player are not so to another. I think at the time we started working on the Worldbreakers Aurelian Sol hadn't been out long. The one time we tried a 750 in a short span after launch was Ekko and I'm not sure if that met with player expectations.
As always if we have something in the works I can't comment on it sorry!
Hi kindlejack!
I don't know if you are allowed to answer this, but: there are nine skins on PBE right now, eight of them are two skin groups of four skins each. It's unusual for that to happen, but the explaination I gave myself is the following: over the last months (years?), you changed the way you make skins. You don't rush your work to have the skins out (we also had a chroma-only patch a few weeks ago, when was the last skin-less patch before that?), but instead if something still needs to be polished, you just set it off (patch cycle being two weeks also helps in this regard, because eve if you do, you don't set the skins off for too long). It seems to me that at least one of these two skin lines was intended to come out earlier, but didn't make it. Is that right?
Note that I support this way of working, I prefer to wait two weeks more and have a skin I'm 100% satisfied with, rather than having more mediocre skins coming out! ^_^
I think it's fine to talk some shop as it's a very real part of my day-to-day. Surprisingly perhaps it's the opposite on skins:
Last year we pushed stuff back (and made, begrudgingly, decisions to cancel some projects) as often as we had to because we didn't have an effective way of tracking production pace as the team grew to almost double it's 2014 size. This year we've still had to cut a couple of things for various reasons but absolutely no content from personalisation has slipped a patch, which is pretty incredible.
Last year we had a pretty intense push to build a world class team with much stronger structure and try our best to make a skin for as may of our champions as possible. We learned a lot, but found that it took a toll on everyone, was impossible to manage and was very hard on other teams trying to co-ordinate with our own. This year by holding ourselves to timelines and goals we were able to work well with our awesome promo team, champion, champ up teams, esports, merch and even live systems (such as the Project Caches).
I hope that your perception is at least in part due to the results of us really striving as a team to make each year better than the last and keep driving the quality bar up for LoL content, despite the challenges we face! As for this skin-heavy PBE cycle part of it is that skins take a while to develop and the launch dates don't always reflect when the work began or the bulk of it was done. You also might see a lull before a big set like Star Guardian because most of the team is hard at work on that - so really we are working hard on something all the time.
One last thing is that we have conversations every day about player value and how we think each skin is shaping up. If there's a skin in the works that isn't meeting our expectations we are very vocal about it. But the forums etc. always remind us that each day we spend polishing any particular skin is a day we're not working on a new skin for a champ that really needs one, and with 132 champs and counting that's a challenge that's not going away any time soon.
Thanks a lot for clarification, I'm surprised but happy to know I was wrong! ^_^
Also, let me give you all a big hug and a big thank you, I think the skins you released over the last year are really a step up, I can see the quality improving with every patch (this is true for other teams too), I think especially 750 skins and chromas are very nice and better than older ones! Of course there are some misteps from time to time, or skins I just don't like, but the overall level? That definitely increased :)
Do you happen to have data at hand of how many skins have come out over the last few years? I have the impression you are producing a lot more skins than two years ago, but I don't have time to count them to see if I'm right (and if so, how much!) :)
Keep it up! :D
It's past 2am and I need to go to bed, but I know 2014 was ~60 skins and then 2015 was over 100 skins! Not sure how this year will end up but we are in a much better position for 2017. That still means we can't do a skin for every champ every year, but at that cadence it does mean that Viktor, Cass and Zyra are overdue.
Thanks so much for the encouragement I'm going to paste your comment into skins channel :)
How likely are we to see an Illaoi skin within 2016?
I can see that, thanks for the reply.
And yes I agree that the choice of champions isn't so straightforward. I'm not an Ekko fan but if you are talking about the school skin I thought it was a really nice choice for him and probably the best of the bunch once I saw the spalsh art. As always, there will be ppl complaining about things. I wasn't angry at all about Aurelion Sol not getting it but as you see I complained anyway xD
Can't wait to see something for my beloved Star Dragon, I think he has a lot of potential in terms of skins (Stormborn, Final Boss, etc.).
Thanks for your thoughts! I actually did the concept for Ekko so it means a lot to me.
I'm glad you love AuSol too, good to know he's got a fan base :)
good to know he's got a fan base :)
We're few but we're good :3

shh I am trying to learn Aurelion Sol in another account.
So what's the world breaker lore?
Tell us more about the RPG world of those skins.
The general idea was to create a good ol' traditional fantasy theme inspired by Rugged Garen - it's not the flashiest Garen skin but it's got a wonderful 'Fighting Man' kind of vibe that was just begging for a party of adventurers to join him.
The first set was imagined as the champions playing a tabletop role-playing game in a cozy non-canon-freljordian tavern; Wizard, Cleric, Knight and Ranger. The names of the skins reflect what the champions chose to call their character, at least according to their sheet.
The new skins are much the same, except this is a new party embarking on a much darker campaign... and although Braum claims to have learned the game from his mother, any roleplayer worth their salt knows that a game must have a game master. I wonder if we'll ever find out who it is.
If you're not familiar with the awesomeness that is Roleplaying then I'd recommend watching Critical Role, it got enough people in the office excited about D&D that now veterans like myself have no trouble finding recruits for new campaigns! Acquisitions Inc. are also great at entertainment based rp.
Even never playing dnd etc I love this skin line. Maybe it's just nice to have a very classic fantasy version of champs. The new world breaker one is great top if you expand on it think about doing a qetzlcoatl ish Aurelion sol!
I'm really happy to hear that both sets are resonating with people! And I totally agree. In a way it was my brother who planted the seed in my head. He'd always play Rugged Garen, which I got for him one Christmas, and I'd ask him why he liked such a simple looking skin. He just said the splash looked like Aragorn and he liked the fantasy style.
Years later when I got to Riot I pitched the idea to the team unsuccessfully in many many meetings. With all the excitement of Sci Fi, DJs, Popstars, Mechas and Magical Girls, my pitch of 'What if we did down to earth classic fantasy skins' sounded a little underwhelming. But through 2015 we tried a lot of 750 thematics, which were very challenging because of the limited scope and really short development times and eventually I found a way to pitch the skin line that really clicked with people. Even then we tried to make sure there was great value in each design - Gragas had never had a serious skin, Varus conversely was always very intense in his other skins, Braum and Ryze had rarely worn shirts :P
I'm glad we got the chance to do a second set. Counting Rugged Garen, Barbarian Sion and perhaps even Greybeard Veigar there's now plenty of adventurers from which to form a balanced party. You could probably even mix in Woad King Darius, Woad Scout Quin and Woad Ashe if you wanted to have deeper ADC picks.
I'm glad you did it, I like playing that genre fantasy stuff sometimes. And the braum and gragas (and garen) skins have to be my favorites for those champions, although I don't play them tons. I'd add in the orcish mundo and spellthief lux btw
I hope you keep doing this skin line, maybe a druid nidalee would be a bit on the nose but that's one I'd personally like to see
Oh yeah they totally fit in. Nidalee would be a great Druid, I think Udyr or Soraka also have potential there (although Celestine Soraka is pretty rpg already).
Spellthief Lux was based on her old lore - during development her W actually turned allies invisible, the idea was she moonlighted as a thief to collect texts otherwise forbidden in Demacia.
wow I never knew that, game must have been really different back then lol
partly I think it would make a nice nidalee skin because right now she's kind of got a lot of variations on her bikini look, and I'm not hating on that but it would be cool to have something different from her that felt more... serious? not exactly the right word for it, but yeah
Bard Bard is the greatest one though, it's exactly the skin I wanted him to have since his release.
