What's the relationship between irelia and Akali?

Based on the interactions between the two, it seems as though Irelia admires Akali's fighting spirit, while being impartial to how snarky her personality is. "I admire your spirit. Your attitude not so much", While Akali is impartial to how Irelia presents herself in relation to her Blades. "The will comes from within, not from the blades" - in reference to Irelia's old title being "the will of the blades".

All I can see is tension between these two, even though their other quotes imply them to have alot in common. Both of them are very skeptical of the traditional Ionian mantra of "Balance In all things" as can be see with: Irelia's quotes "Balance be damned... Wipe them out!" "Keep your 'balance', ours is the only side that matters."

And

Akali's Quotes "Forget balance, this is a reckoning." You're dead, I'm alive. See? Balance."

Respectively.

To add to this, Irelia's second Quote relating to balance is said to an enemy Kinkou Order member - an order based around balance that Akali herself left.

Shouldn't these two get along a bit? Or at least have a bit less bitter banter and a bit more playful banter her and there
