Graham McNeill, author of various books and codices ( codexes?) about Warhammer 40k, joins Riot. What do you think about this?

I'm not going to hold my breath. Just because you have a well-regarded writer on staff, doesn't mean the company is going to start producing anytime soon, Soon™ or ever.

I agree, but i am talking about Graham as an asset himself. Everything might happen because everything is done as a company, as a whole, and does not depend on him only at all.

Well, they have assets already, including the creators of Megas XLR and Avatar, the Last Airbender. We're still waiting for stuff.

I am not saying that we are crammed with texty goodness already, but that is a talk about Narrative department, not the writer itself.

I don' t want this to be another discussion about narrative :C

I'm not sure if you can avoid it, to be honest.

McNeill seems to be a well regarded writer for Warhammer 40K, but he needs to move to LA, get settled in his office/desk, learn what there is of League's lore world, and start writing stuff. Outside of ideas and suggestions for other people's work, there's not much he's going to contribute to in the very near future.

However Decrit, you have to think: Maybe he still has to follow Narrative's boring way of lore. Maybe a great writer but, If he has to follow that lame scheme of writing too it won't matter

Oh, I know and I completely agree! I just opened the post here to talk about the writer itself, not talking about his impact on the future of Narrative as whole.

Also to discover a bit more about hi, because i don' t have strong opinions about him already, either way.

I don't know anything about Warhammer 40k, nor this guy, so I have no idea what he'd bring. I just hope he's aware of--and more importantly, understands--the situation between Narrative and the lore community.

Games Workshop's Warhammer 40k franchise has an extensive amount of background information and details. That said, a lot of the more recent codexes and materials have dealt less with worldbuilding details and has been extremely more character focused. In that sense, Graham would be a good fit with the narrative team's current mission statement of more character focus.

Of course, seeing how Graham works in what is essentially a universe with no major ongoing conflicts, very little in the way of champion inter-connections, and some champions being completely isolated from another... that'd be interesting.

I could go on and rant about the current state of Warhammer 40k lore and how it's heavily Spice Mereens focused but I won't. Warhammer 40k has it's own share of problems - I think the most significant for us would be the over-emphasis on one particular segment of the universe (probably Champions) which causes the rest of the universe to seem stupid, stagnant, or plain unnecessary without.

Quick question, how many good books for Warhammer 40k has he written? from my experience Graham Mcneils writing has been average to bad, though not quite to the level of the one true mutilator of pen and paper. i mean the_ ultramarines_ series was bleh and the battle for the abyss was just godawful

I'd say more like this (Dark Mechanicus suits him more, in my opinion), but -as I've said for a while- Viktor needs a Tech-Priest skin. Now is the perfect time for it to happen.
