Is Riot okay with these leaks?

I personally think it's kinda bad, like someone is spoiling the whole plot of a story or a movie, or spoiling someone's surprise party. I know people will probably say something like "but it creates hype", but knowing what's going to come out in the next months is kinda boring. I love it when they create teasers for a skin and it's all a surprise, and when they tease a new champion everyone talks about what role would they be in, what region, what abilities ect. But with leaks, it doesn't become what will come out next patch, but more in the lines of when it will come out. And that's kinda disappointing.

Edit: Before someone else will say to not look at the leaks, in the next few hours, youtubers, boards, facebook comments are gonna be filled with them about these leaks. You can't really escape them.

Another edit: I don't agree with the leaks which I should have mention out first.

Well consider this: the contents of leaks are potentially (If they have even a modicum of truth to them), something that rioters spent months, sometimes even years working on, and are highly invested in. And it all happens because some twat decides to either:

  1. Make up some bs to get internet points
  2. Risk their job security to get internet points

So if a leak is wrong, it's annoying because it sets up people's expectations. If it's right, then it sets expectations and spoils the content before it comes out, while also meaning someone's probably gonna get fired considering they breached company policies to leak this information.

So yeah, I wouldn't expect Riot to be anything less that sourly disappointed whenever a leak comes to light, whether it be truthful or not. I know that's how I feel too.

Especially considering how fucking easily people jump on the leak band wagon.

Repeating myself from another post

{quoted}

  1. We don't know if the newest "leaks" have any validity. There have been plenty of false leaks before, we've just got a recent one that's spot on.
  2. I feel like for most of the accurate leak I've looked at something on it and thought "that can't be right," but then seeing it in execution it's actually decent/cooler than I thought it would be. Because of that, I don't see the leaks as letting down hype any more than the PBE. In fact, I've kinda stopped watching the PBE closely because I've felt like that spoils things more than the Leaks.

I don't think its riot employees leaking.

I know riot does tours sometimes and friends/family of rioters probably mention these sort of things online. Reading that reddit thread, there's supposedly a lot of talk about that leaker being on a tour. Its also not out of the question for a playtester (usually pro player) uninvolved with riot themselves to make a new reddit and leak.

If it was another rioter, I'm pretty sure they'd be able to fully leak everything, instead we see what appears to be guesswork and assumptions in the first real leak.

Regardless, I don't think any company likes leaked content. Its bad for business in more ways than one.

Skin leaks dont mean anything at all and shouldnt affect you in any way lol. The only dangerous leak so far was when they managed to get Tahm Kench's trailer video from Riot files and leak it on reddit/youtube 2 weeks before Riot revealed anything about him

Agree. They should find who leaks these stuff all the time and fire him

Ghostcrawler said it's usually the family and friends of workers who leak the projects being worked on.

Family and friends who stumble across some documents probably feel they have nothing to lose since they themselves aren't invested

I'm honestly surprised these leaks made it out again!! I would've expected them to crack down in some manner after the last ones :( They're interesting to see, but I know it's really disappointing for them so I feel really bad and I kinda really hope it doesn't happen again. It's really shitty to for me, I can't even imagine THEM, seeing people already talking shit on even the IDEA of some of the skins and it's just so disheartening. Why can't everyone just wait to see what everything's going to look like before they judge? It's so annoying, wish we could just scrub the leaks away.

They're so many people who are immediately jumping on the bandwagon and their expectations go way high up and gives Riot "stress" (there's another word to describe it but stress is good for now) to say that it's fake and people will start flaming them for absolute no reason and it's ridiculous.

The only downside of a leak is if there were things on it that were fake and people build stupid misconceptions.

Truthfully it just advertises the content to come, I still get hyped when the new teasers for the skins and champions when they get dropped despite seeing the leaks. It was especially fun seeing the majority of the last leak be completely true. I agree I prefer the usual method with Riot just dropping teasers and content on the PBE, but the leaks really aren't as harmful to the surprise most of the time.
