So I’ve been trying to find where the new Ursine are described in the universe page, but I’ve gotten no luck. From what I remember, Ursine are no longer their own race, but the transformed worshippers of Volibear, twisted fusions of man and bear.
Is this true or am I wrong with new Volibear?
Warlord Dienekes5 votesNo proof of this. But if I had to guess. Ursine are Volibear’s once human servants turned monstrous to fight in the early wars against the Watchers. Now, like their god, their ferocity has no other outlit and they roam the mountains for a new cause or at least bloodshed to satisfy them.
Perhaps one human has potential to gather the ursine under a banner they can follow. One of strength and aggression. A banner of a Winter’s Claw.
Of course, all that is made up bull.

Voli was retconned to join Winters Claw during the Liss update when he was originally going to side with Ashe.
Now that he's the Frejlord Demi-God of Storm & War it would make sense for the Winter's Claw to either worship, admire, or want to be in favor of Volibear and the Ursine.

IMO it was a really lame story choice and I hope that the Lore team ret-cons it to make them more interesting. It might be really cool to have them be your stereotypical glory seeking tough people from the cold regions, like Olaf, the Vikings, or the Norse. There was no need to make them all monstrosities.

Not a good first look for their new lore direction.

Anyways Ornn's lore absolutely paints the Ursine in a dark light. However, you should consider from who's PoV the story was told from. The truth may be different.

Absolutely, I do understand that. I'm just disappointed that that is the only PoV we have for the Ursine right now. I'm really really hoping that Riot does their kind justice when they reboot Volibear's lore.

They have left our only view of the Ursine that of a people who were being hunted by them. Riot has left us with no evidence of any alternative narrative. Simply by that omission of a perspective other than that of the victims of the Ursine, Riot paints the Ursine in a terrible light.
ChompyWulf3 votesThis. More than any other plot line, the Ursine were kinda in a quiet limbo, and Ornn's lore has upended it.
Given that Ornn is described as a stubborn recluse and even is shown as being arrogant, this depiction of Voli and the Ursine could very well be an old wives tale that is propaganda.
Voli and the Ursine need an update. He's a fun champ, but his kit is too basic and telegraphed. The roar is frankly weak as hell, Ult is underwhelming, and Q feels far too lacking of an engage tool before rank 5. Some work to improve his play style and some new lore that explains half the feud with Ornn would be nice.

That guy hates Volibear and is not shy about it. He is not a reliable narrator.

Unlike most of Ornn's lore being folk tale/ legend, the story "Voice from the Hearth" is ah.. historical I guess is the right word. Evident enough that the two stories Ornn had on release change from third person to first and the way this story progresses it still paints the Ursine in a menacing context.
Also on account of Ornn's chill and passive personality, he gets uncharacteristically aggressive towards Volibear and his horde equally. See unlike the Viktor and Jayce feud we know that Ornn isn't a zealot or even narcissistic and even though "Lost tales" is hard to distinguish fact from myth, at the end of the day Ornn isn't a provoker so something had to put him at odds with them all.
