Does Swain need to wash his Demon Hand before he eats?

I like to work with the idea that he still has a stump until he chooses to activate the demons power. He was supposed to conceal his power in lore, makes more sense to me than the idea that he just always hides it in his coat

"Hey swain, what's that red glow coming from inside your cloak that you hide your arm in?"

I don't think he eats with it

I assume it flies out in bird form, washes itself, and returns
